Dear Sir-
A note of appreciation on two counts. First, your books have assisted me as a teacher to entice reluctant male readers to become invested in their reading. The subject of military history along with thoughtful protagonists, using their wit as well their muscle to navigate conflict, has been an easy and fruitful recommendation. Secondly, my own enjoyment of history has been enhanced by your novels. Like many other history "geeks", I have been prompted to search out non-fiction as a follow up to your books.. In addition, my military atlases are dogeared keeping up with the characters' appearances in numerous battles and crucial fronts within the battles.
Thank you for your contribution to my professional and personal life.
Sincerely-
Michael Burns
I am in the process of redesigning my website, so I am out sampling other authors to see what they have done. I like yours and have gotten some good ideas for modifying mine. I haven't read your books but I will make a point of doing so now. I did, however, read the above instructions and very much appreciate the way you wrote that...straight forward, clear, sensitive to the reader, and not 'unfriendly' at all. Thanks,

Sr. Bernard Cornwell.

Thank you for getting me back into reading. About five years ago I picked up the Saxon Stories as a pool side activity and have been an avid reader ever since. Your books keep me fixed to the page and have encouraged me to investigate the different periods of history that they cover. Uhtred is a great character, a horrible but lovable hero that I would want to stand next to in a shield wall! Thanks again.

Mr Cornwell,
Just read The Flame Bearer. As with all your Saxon stories, I was eagerly looking forward to it and I was not disappointed. Fantastic stuff reflecting an enthralling period of history. My only regret was binging on it in less than a day. My family historians tell me that I am most likely a distant descendant of Alfred the Great (as is probably quite a large percentage of Britain!) through Malcolm III of Scotland’s marriage to Margaret of Wessex. Just adds a little something to my fascination with pre-Norman Englaland.
Thank you for The Flame Bearer. I trust you are working on a sequel…

Purchase of Officers Commissions -
Actually, I believe I have read that the system of the purchase of officer commissions was actually intended as a "reform" based on the experience of having England living under what was in effect a military government during the Oliver Cromwell. By showing they could pay a substantial sum for their commissions, it was thought that officers would be solid citizens, with a genuine stake in England, and not just military adventurers out for what their rank could get them.

Have just read Frances Hardy's interview with you and published in the Daily Mail (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3861316/The-father-beat-till-bled-Sharpe-author-books-loved-millions-subjected-horrific-abuse-Christian-zealots-adopted-boy.html) in which she mentions your first book being 'Sharpe's Evil'. I know you haven't published one under this title, so perhaps you had better make it clear to your readers who may think otherwise.
