I enjoy your books and I am awaiting the new book in the Viking saga. I have trouble reading now and I have asked our library to order the new book on CD as soon as it is available.

Q

Dear Mr. Cornwall,

I would just like to add my thanks to all these other messages. Having been lured into the Uhtred stories by the BBC (and, admittedly, their choice of lead actor), I am now transported by your prose. I am working my way through the saga and am enjoying every moment, twist, turn and sword thrust. Thank you ~ you have made the dreary winter months in the north bearable.

Caroline

Q

Mr. Cornwell--

I used to think Richard Sharpe was the greatest historical fiction character of all (as an aside, your Christmas story which so satisfyingly ends his career/life should be included in the list of his books). I have slowly come to change that opinion--Uther--Lord Uther is tremendous.

Can't wait for the next book and dread the end of him and the series.

I just had to write to tell you that I am almost finished the third book - Excalibur - in your extraordinary series.  I have been utterly absorbed in the wonderful story your amazingly creative mind has woven.  My husband is reading the second book now - we decided to investigate  you as a writer after watching the TV series The Last Kingdom which we thoroughly enjoyed - and we are discriminating viewers.  I have just undergone three months of chemotherapy and your books gave me such welcome escape when I was feeling far from well.  Thank you so very much for sharing your wonderful storytelling ability. Now I have to read The Last Kngdom!j

Thank you!  Best of luck with your treatments.

Q

I just wanted to thank you sir for writing the books that you do. It is always one of my favorite times of the year when you have a new book released especially the Saxon Stories. Though I have read every thing that you have wrote. Keep up the good work sir and hope that you have a blessed 2016 and I look forward to the next book you release!

Q

just seen the comment about Athel and Ethel - I'm from Margate in Kent (originally), and there are quite a few "saxon" streets - Athelstan Road, Ethelbert Road, Gardens and Crescent. Sweyn Road, plus some Egberts, Godwins....good that the people naming these streets considered the local history when they were being developed 150+ years ago. Even if they did a Pick'n Mix on the names.

And good to see you're writing the 10th one - thanks for the others:-)

Q

I am reading Chapter 15 of Marc Morris' book "The Norman Conquest" and I am compelled to offer condolences for the beheading of "Waltheof, a member of the house of Bamburgh, son of Earl Siward and Elfflaed, Granddaughter of Earl Uhtred" on May 31, 1076 atop St. Giles Hill.  Mr. Morris also writes that Waltheof was the "last English earl."    Morris also notes that when Waltheof was approached by the leaders of this rebellion against the Normans he was recognized as the "last Englishman of any power and standing."

Once upon a time . . . . . and if only he’d kept his head we might still be living at Bamborough!

Q

Dear Mr. Cornwell.

The Last Kingdom series is exceptionally imagitive historical fiction. I've read every book you have written to date and look forward to enjoying many more.

I have seen all but the final episode of the screen version of The Last Kingdom and must say that I was disappointed not to hear Uhtred utter the most important sentence in the series, "Fate is inexorable."

I realize that this is perhaps petty of me and appreciate that this is not your doing and most likely the work of some producer or director who felt that the masses wouldn't quite understand the word, 'inexorable.' I would have disagreed with them vociferously and argued that they mustn't undermine the very spirit, indeed the heart of Uhtred's journey.

I pray to both the Christian God and to Odin that you are gifted with many more years of extraordinary writing.

Kind regards.

Paul

Q

Dear Mr. Cornwell,

I came to your Uhtred books via a library. I read the first and i was on my knees: GREAT, Powerful and intresting. The second part i did listen to the audiobook in German. Gerd Anderson is AWESOME. The best voice i ever listen to.

I did read all Utred parts and and listen to ALL audio Utreds. Then i saw in news Last Kingdom will comes up in TV and i was on fire like i was as kid for christmas. I saw  the pic of the actor and said to my self: oki, small guy, not blond, not hard looking, not brutal looking, not tall and not like you described him. Then i saw all 8 episodes.

I dont know how you came to the deal, what restrictions they gave you and why the story had a wrong chronological progress, a blending of the constellation of the persons and how they act and met each other. Utred did not meet the dauhgter of Alfred and why there was no Steapa, no Utred on ships etc etc. ... It all might have reasons and i do not blame you at all for all this very big disappointment. If i would have the money and the knowledge i do swear i would have did it like the books had been written and  i would have searched endless for the right characters/actors etc etc.

I thought Sparactcus TV Series is not topable, yours could be the best the world ever had seen but the 3 spinners did have other plans. They did a poor series of it, with good actors in wrong contents, the missed tons of details like Serpent-Breath or Ragnars real behave.

I hope you are not disappointed like me and i hope for part 9 of Uhtred. I start now to read now your other books and i will have some bright days and some comfortable nights.

Thank Bernard for the best books i have read since ages and ages.

My deep deep respect and best regards and health to you and yours

Markus
