Mr Cornwell,
My brother and I have enjoyed reading your books immensely over the last few years. We have both especially enjoyed Uhtred of Bebbanburg and The Saxon Tales. Out of all the characters from your works he is the one that we can relate to best. I'd say he has definitely helped and motivated the both of us over the years. I'm not positive, but I'd be willing to bet that Uhtred and Richard Sharpe are both responsible for my brother and me being in the military. Richard Sharpe is also the reason I enlisted after college instead of becoming an officer. I do not regret my decision, in fact I think it has helped me quite a bit.
Your books, specifically The Saxon Tales, inspired me to get my bachelors in history with a minor in anthropology. I have to admit that anytime I had to write an essay for one of my classes and was stumped or not very excited about it I would try to find a book of yours that would roughly match the time period. After reading your book I would be much more motivated to finish my research for the paper and complete the essay. So I greatly appreciate the fact that you have helped me to maintain a high level of interest in history.Thank you for continuing to write such enjoyable books.
Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Cornwell,
A few feeble words about your incredible talent:
Reading your historical novels is like climbing into a time machine. Characters from hundreds or even a thousand years ago come charging into my reading chair with a reality that I hardly find in other authors. You pull us into the lives of your heroes and villains with rich emotional gravity - the beautiful attraction between a man and a woman (but not always love), and the vengeful rage between heroes and evildoers. The revenge is always sensational.
I hope you are a happy workaholic so that I will be enriched by your talent for years to come.
With sincere gratitude,

Hi Bernard,
This is a question for you and other fans. A couple of months ago I was surfing the net, typed in a question along the lines of 'people throughout history predicting the future'. It did turn up something interesting: a young woman born disabled actually envisioned mankind harnessing new technologies - including electricity! However, rather foolishly I forgot to pin that particular page to my favourites and have had trouble finding it since. Does anybody know about the name of this mysterious young lady?Robert Douglas
Hello Mr Cornwell
Just finished The Pagan Lord after reading the other six in the series before hand. Yes I have read them many times. There isn't much I can say really but brilliant.
ps I think Uhtred should become a film star.
Looking forward to the next bookBev
I HAVE READ ALL THE SHARPE BOOKS AND ALSO GOT MY SON ADDICTED TO THEM.I HAD NEVER READ YOUR OTHER BOOKS UNTIL I PICKED ONE UP LAST WEEK. AMAZING AND THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE. THE WORLD IS A BETTER PLACE WITH AUTHORS .THANK YOU.

I have read all the books in all of your series and they are excellent and I am looking forward to reading Pagan Lord when I finish 1356. I hope you have many more books planned.

My local Waterstones contacted me on Monday to let me know that The Pagan Lord was in store. I wasn't expecting it until tomorrow (26 Sept) so I was really happy. I picked up my reserved copy that afternoon and I have just finished it. I wish I could say I loved every minute, but one paragraph concerning the fate of my favourite Dane made me sad, but I did love every other minute of it! I panicked slightly on the last page, but then remembered something from the first book that reassured me.....a little! Here's hoping that I'm not wrong and that there will be at least one more book to come in the series. Thank you so much for this story.

Dear Mr. Cornwell,
I’d hate to use a commonplace phrase to begin my commentary here, but “I’ve never written to anyone like this before.” Ultimately, I find your books outstanding/overwhelming! I have read the Saxon Tales novels and am currently reading Enemy of God. I’m not sure who I’ve been routing for more: Uhtred or Derfel! These guys have the masculine hubris that I appreciate while also radiating emotion/expression in a more refined, subtle, and perhaps even feminine manner if I may say so. As an English teacher and canonical literature quasi-guru, I find your writing/literary aura to oscillate somewhere between J.R.R. Tolkien and Sir Walter Scott, and there have been a few times (when reading your books) where pride swelled up in me so much so that I could actually feel tears coming on (e.g., when Merlin saves Arthur and Derfel at Lugg Vale just in the nick of time). In the past, only Tolkien has had this effect on me, so you are the first living author who pulled at my emotions
like that! Thank you for your great contribution to a literary genre that Harold Bloom (incorrectly) says is dying out or long dead. Please keep writing these rich, memorable novels!
