I am embarrassed to say that I did not know of you until a few months ago and somehow you turned up in a book search. I love historical military novels and am now on my 17th book with absolutely no sign of boredom. You books are timeless and the details of the characters and military tactics has been terrifically educational. Please keep your books coming as it will be quite depressing when I read the last one.

Hi Bernard,
I first came across Thomas of hookton in the basement of a German pub I was working in about 10 years ago. I have no idea how it got there, but I picked it up one day during a rather boring day time shift and started reading it.
Luckily it was Harlequin and I happened to start the series on the right book.I took a long break then, and I was in college and had enough other reading to do. But I eventually got back to finishing off the grail quest.
Then after a few years break I decided to look up some of your other works, and the Sharpe series being so large I opted for Uthred and his viking ways!
It turned into a bit of a war for the books in my house. My two other flat mates got into Uthred after I gave them book one, and soon after they started pestering me for book two and they were hot on my heels.
They books were even traded for favours once one person had won the rights to read it next, i.e, I'll trade you the next Uthred book first if you drop me to town and spare me a taxi!
That was about 3 years ago. I always take a break from the same style of books and authors. I think it is good to mix things up.Anyway, that bring me to this year and I decided to read the Sharpe series because it's winter and wet and crap and work was too stressful to allow myself to do anything in the evening except escapism!
I read every book in Richard Sharpe's series between Christmas and late March.
I thoroughly enjoyed them all, and if you asked me at Christmas would I ever get through the whole series I would probably have said no, as it looked so big and daunting!
So thank you for such great books and a lot of reading through a particularly miserable winter.
And in a totally unrelated event, I am now saving up for a telescope!
Regards,
Brian

Dear Bernard
Just a quick note to say how much I have loved reading the Saxon Chronicles. I have just started the Lords of the North after reading the other two. Fantastic.
The only problem being that they are very difficult to put down once you have started (ie I stay reading until the early hours trying to get until the end). The missus is none too happy, but it is worth it.
Thanks very much

I live near Carlisle in England. A couple of years ago, I won a book voucher (not for a particularly mainstream bookshop, but it was a voucher nonetheless) and I remember searching in vain for a book that would interest me (I used to read all the time when I was younger and had to go on "book bans") as I had recently started to lose interest in books. Anyway after being buffeted about by the other students I ended up finding solace by the entrance where there were shelves upon shelves of historical fiction and classic works. The short story is I ended up leaving with three 'Sharpe' books and 'The Pale Horseman' (I had vague memories of the 'Alfred' books). I had watched Sharpe on TV when I was younger and enjoyed it, and my philosophy is that the books are usually better than the films. How true this was (not that I don't enjoy watching Sean Bean running around a battlefield). Instantly I caught the fever that I had long forgotten and I can't but books down. Interestingly, when I had
started the 'Pale Horseman' I happened to be on a week's trip to Holy Island and of course Bamburgh Castle; so I suddenly felt as if it were meant to be.
My friend and I are both huge fans, and she made me a bear in Rifleman's Green which I have named Major Sharpe (because 'Lieutenant Colonel Sharpe' was a bit of a long name) and he sits on my bookshelf, next to the ongoing 'Sharpe' collection.
I just wanted to thank you for getting me back into the wonder of books and I do hope there will be more of 'Sharpe' although it has been a few years and there are only so many battles to put him and Harper in.
Thank you so much for all of your wonderful books!

My buddy Mark loves your writing and has read many of your books. The entire Uhtred Saga, the Grail Quest, Arthur books, Agincourt. He would describe your books with such a passion that I decided to seek your work out myself. I started with an audio copy of Agincort and have since gotten into the Uhtred series. I am on the Lords of the North now and just wanted to take a second to thank you for such a wonderful escape from the real world! I am born and raised in the US but have ancestors from basically all areas represented in the Uhtred series so its cool to get a sense of life back then. Just wanted to thank you and let you know that I really appreciate your work!

Mr Cornwell,
First, thank you so much for the huge pleasure all your books have given me.
Second, please, please, pretty please take Uhtred forward and permit him to recapture Bebbanburg. I've just had my 75th birthday and I want to live to see (well, read about) it.
Good health and good fortune

Hi, Bernard.
I just want to thank you to bring me a lot of fun reading almost all of your books translated to portuguese. I just finished Death of Kings and I´m very avid to read the next one, and I was happy to discover that your are about to finish the seventh book.
Oh, and a have The Winter King signed by you, when you came to Rio in 2009 :)
My best wishes,

I'm down to the last 100 pages of "Excalibur", having read "The Winter King" and "Enemy of God". What a totally believable tour de force! Gripping in the extreme. If anyone reading this has not yet read The Warlord Chronicles - delay no longer.
