I devoured the first five books of A Saxon Tale! Thank you. It's a time I was always interested in and you made it real for me. Again, thank you!

Q

Your books are probably the best I have ever read. I am 28 and enjoy medieval novels more then any other. I am just about to finish Heretic. My favourite though, is the Saxon novels. When I finish Heretic tonight ill open Death of Kings. Uhtred might be my favourite character in any book I've read. I wonder if you find it funny I pronounce his name "Uthred"?. I wanted to say that your books are so great! Thank you for writing! Steve Wheeler.

I'm in the middle of Sharp's Triumph and came upon your statements about mad hatters ("...no one knew why hatters were mad ..."). While you may know this, hatters would cure their felt in a mercury solution and size the hats by pulling them onto their own heads, over time absorbing enough through their scalps to develop toxic encephalopathy.

I had heard that, and thank you for reminding me! But Sharpe didn't know and I think I was trying to tell it from his point of view.

Q

Happy New Year Mr C! Just finished Death of Kings, and what a brilliant read it was. As ever, my only issue was that it was all over to soon. Can't wait for the next one!

Q

HI Mr Cornwell, just finished reading Death of Kings and it it you mention a Viking chief being kicked out of Ireland by the Irish, odd thing is a work friend of mine is a metal detector enthusiast and at in November last year he found about 200 pieces of Viking Treasure which the experts believe belonged to The same Viking chief mentioned in your book, hows that for timing. Trivia I know but I couldn't get over the fact this Treasure has been in the Ground for over 1100 years and is found in a farmers field in Carnforth near where I live just at the same time as the guy who lost it is mentioned in one of your novels. If you want to read more about it just google viking treasure carnforth and it will come up.

Q

Hi I just wanted to say thankyou really, a friend introduced your books to me a few years ago and you have quickly become my favourite author! your historical novels has re awakened my love of history so I have now started a history degree in my spare time. my thanks comes really from your novels keeping me sane! for a while i was having to do a mind numbingly boring job to pay the bills and the only bonus was being able to listen to my ipod, so instead of music i had the audio books of the saxon stories and the time just flew! so thank you for that! I look forward to reading/listening to more of your work, and hope that one day the warlord chronicles are made into a film or series as I believe that would be a blockbuster. Thanks again Kelly

Q

Dear Mr Cornwell, I hope this finds you well. I recently started reading your work and wanted to write to you and voice my appreciation. Having read many hundreds of books over the past thirty four years, none have encouraged me to write to the author, until I read The Burning Land. The writing and storyline was so immersive and skilfully written, that I felt transported to a parallel life every time I picked it up. Other than your eloquent and skillful use of the English Language and immense knowledge and insight into the Viking era, I felt that there must be more at play than sheer literary genius. If one believed in reincarnation, I might like to think that I could have fought alongside a Viking warlord in a previous life, despite no real physical reflection in my current physique! I have just started the Warlord Chronicles Trilogy and already I have withdrawal symptoms. Thanks again and keep up the good work. Kindest regards Joël

Q

Mr. Cornwell, Thank you for response to my 23Dec questions.I love the service you provide; being able to talk to you about your books that so enrich my life means a lot.Much of my tours through the Scandinavian national museums , especially in Copenhagen, and the ship museums in Oslo and Rothskilde really fleshed out a lot of what I have been reading in The Saxon Stories. I was able to get Death of kings in Heathrow on the way back. Can't wait. Thanks again.More New England, possibly Chatham/southeast Massachusetts would be great.

Dear Mr. Cornwell: Thank you for your impeccable research! Your books, how they ring with truth!Your descriptions of the adventures of Sharpe, Uhtred and Derfel(including the countrysides)paint a vivid picture. Tolkein and O'Brian devote the same attention to the world their characters inhabit. The rich details(the birds, flowers and weapons, et al) speak of much time spent poring over dusty history tomes and natural history. You immerse your reader in the era and take no prisoners! Years ago, I picked up The Winter King and from the first page, knew I was in the hands of a master. Having just finished Death of Kings, it was time to thank you properly for the years of pleasure found in your works. Sincerely, Rudy Hurlbert
