Hello, when I read your books of Uthred,.... the books are wonderful!!! My favourites are the 1th and 3th book. The 6th book comes soon and I want to read it then(!). Happy new year and Goodbye, Bernhard

Mr. Cornwell, First, I am writing this from my phone, so please excuse any grammar or spelling errors. That being said, I wanted to let you know that you are one of the greatest authors that I have ever read. Your stories make me feel like I was born in the wrong century, and when I read them I can feel the characters emotions for myself. I spent a good part of my life serving in the armed forces, here (the States) and abroad, and your battles are some of the most descriptive and accurate battles that I have read. Anyhow, I just wanted to say thanks for your excellent reading material. Sincerely, John Cook

Just to say that due to an inspired decision to have Richard Armitage reading Lords of the North, I am now "listening" to all of the books of the Saxon Stories. All of the readers give good "readings" but I have to say that Richard Armitage gives a supreme "performance".I am now in the process of buying all of the books in this series which I can read at leisure whilst having had the benefit of hearing the difficult pronunciation of Saxon place names.

Hi- I've been listening to the Saxon Stories on audio CD (I have a very long commute) and I've been enjoying them immensely. Of course, as I listen and hear the bits of historical arcania that are thrown in to real give the texture to the entire time period in which you're writing, invariably I wonder sometimes "is that really what they did, or is just a guess?". One of these happens to be the shining and polishing of mail with sand and vinegar. Then I happen upon a story on Yahoo about all the uses for vinegar, including cleaning metal. The link is here: http://shine.yahoo.com/green/20-unusual-uses-for-vinegar-2588664.html. (Note numbers 12 and 17.) I found it interesting, and though you might as well, especially given the fact that you've used vinegar as an occasional prop in the stories. Thanks again for the great stories.

When I was growing up, it was The Eagle Annual. Now I look forward to the latest in the Uhtred Saga. Another masterpiece, so many thanks. Hope you don't take too long to finish the series: I'm not getting any younger!

Q

Mr. Cornwell, I would like to thank you for your writing. I am from North Carolina and a couple years ago I came across Winter King. From there I continued with the series then Stonehenge and recently started The Saxon Tales. You are by far my favorite author. I am reading Warlord chronicles for the 3rd time because it is just that good. I know there are doubts on Arthur's existence but with your books just seem real. I wish that all of mankind but myself especially could strive to be the loyal, good, and half the man as your characters Derfel Cadarn or Uhtred of Bebbanburg. I promise myself that I will read all of your works as my life progresses. I have never been more enthralled as I am when I pick up your books. I saw the question earlier but man what epic films could come of you work if they were done right. Until or if ever that happens I will try to pass your literature on to others, so they can enjoy the countless hours of reading as I have.

Thanks for your kind words Matthew.

I have always liked reading science or history. But as I am now retired, I have read more fiction but I have to say that I never really cared too much for it. I always thought that the stories were too fantasized and lacking in true realism. After reading most of the Saxon Stories books, I am truly thrilled at the level of complexity and depth that makes the stories seem so real. I wonder if you actually have a real working time machine!

Q

Love your books. Have just about all of them. Saxon Stories got me started and are my favorites. Just a short suggestion on the Starbuck Chronicles (no plots suggestions or twists, so I won't sue you, guaranteed). Reading your explanation, I now understand why there isn't a new Starbuck book. However, to satisfy those of us who don't like loose ends, perhaps one more Starbuck book to wrap things up; maybe with a unique surprise ending. Theodore Tjader

Thx Mr. Cornwell for the great interview between George R R Martin and you (can be found on the news section of his homepage). I owe the great reading experiences of your books to GRRM, because he mentioned you on his homepage before. (so you owe him the twelve books i bought :) ) Can't wait until Death of Kings is released in Germany. After reading the interview people hopefully will stop asking how many books Uhtreds (or other) story needs. I also liked that you are into GRRM's work, too. Greetings from Germany Holger

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the interview. The complete interview (Amazon.com's version is abbreviated) can be found on the Diary page of this website. I think George's work is quite splendid and wonderfully imaginative!

Last year did Salamanca (Arapilles in fog), Ciudad Rodrigo, and Almeida, before driving towards Madrid and finding the beautiful walls of Avilla and then Segovia. In 2 days off to Lisbon to see The Lines of Torres Vedra's. All inspired by your good self and "Sharp". Many thanks for the inspiration and of course "Robert Harveys 'War of Wars'" is a great educator.. John Scott
