I just finished reading Death of Kings and I loved it. I spent the last 2 days immersed! Two suggestions for the next edition - a more detailed map, and a more detailed family tree. Cynthia

A

Maps are always a problem . . . they arrive so late in the publishing process, and that isn't an excuse - I'll try to hasten things (and improve them) next time. The family tree? Oh god, the publisher put one in a book and it was a travesty. Maybe we should try again (and get it right this time)

Thank you for the Sharpe books; they make me want to read as I have trouble reading. thank you,

Hello from Afghanistan Mr Cornwell. I'm a British soldier who is missing his wife and kids over the Christmas period. Your new Saxon Story book has however provided with some small comfort. You could ask my wife, I am not a big reader but I love your Saxon Stories as I am a very proud Englishman (married to a German!) and am very proud of our history. Like you say in the historical note at the end of Death of Kings, there is too little taught in schools about the true formation of our country (before 1066) and I think that Uhtred provides a fantastic insight into that history and with a little fiction in there too to fill in some of the blanks. Thank you very much for making my tour a little easier to bear and I cannot wait until Uhtred campaigns again. Kind regards. Ricky

I thank you very much - for your message and, more importantly, for your service. Best wishes to you and your fellow soldiers!

Dear Mr Cornwell, first of all i have to say a sincere thank you for all pleasure and company that your books have given me over the years, while not claiming to have read them all,i have read a lot of them. I have just finished "Death of Kings",i was given it for Christmas, and I've had to ration my reading to make it last until the 31st.Your books bring to life the 9th 10th century as i feel it must have been, all the dirt and the stench, and the blood and pain of battle.I feel a connection to Uhtred now,i feel that him and me have been through a lot together, and like him I'm getting older,a lot of grey in "my beard". Once again thank you very much for your work, it is deeply appreciated,i can guess the work involved as i tried to write a book myself once and gave up, after all, you can only push so much water up hill!. A happy new year to you and all your family. Bob Higgins.

Q

Mr. Cornwell, I just finished reading your Arthur series and have to say that i was truly moved by the ending (and the entire story as well). I have to agree with many of the others who have read the series that it would make a fantastic film or better yet miniseries. I have read many of your other books as well and the Saxon series is my favorite. I am very pleased with many of the historical accuracies and the obvious research efforts. I look forward to reading more from you.

Hi Bernard, Just like to say that I have been a fan of your Sharpe series since the early 1980's. Someone this year bought me the DVD series + Challenge and Peril. I have enjoyed them immensely and think that Sean is so right for the part of Sharpe. Cannot wait for the next book. Regards, Ann

Q

Dear Mr Cornwell, Thankyou for introducing me to my two friends Uhtred and Dervel. They come from a time that has fascinated me for years. A story told in myth and song, rather than being imprisoned in dry history books. (and I'm a history teacher) I have read most of your other works but these stand out Thank you

Dear Bernard, I'm a massive fan of your books and just wanted to let you know they have given me, and my middle son hours of pleasure. I have literally just finished Sharpe's honour leaving two more to read to complete the series. They are a magnificent collection of stories. I have also read Harlequin, Vagabond, Stonehenge and the Fort amongst others and am working my way through your vast back catalogue. Keep up the fantastic writing and many thanks for giving Harry and i such pleasure. David and Harry Stirk Leeds England
