Mr Cornwell, I am sure that you are bombarded with messages of support from readers for your work and, in that, i am no exception. I have followed you from the start of your published career and, in many instances have re-read your books more than once. The sting however is in the tail ( or perhaps tale). Your recent books of Alfred and the hero Uhtred are difficult to read due to the constant need to refer to the notes on names. Perhaps I am in the minority but all of your former works were written and set in the present or in a period to which many of us can relate. Having loved all of your previous work i must confess that the current hero leaves me cold and the books are rarely finished. Please, Please go back to your previous skills!! Yours, Robert Munro.

Dear Mr. Cornwell, I just finished Death of Kings, I really enjoyed reading it like the other books of the Uhtred saga. But I also have to criticize you for the point how bad you let people treat dogs in this book!I have a dog myself and I really got furious when I read how Uhtred killed his favourite hound. I know people did and still do cruel things to satisfy their god(s), but it makes me mad. I really admire Aethelflead, she was a very brave and modern woman for her time, but I really hate her husband. I pity Edward because he is under the power of the priests who mostly do not really know about warfare but just advise him to do what they think would save the country. Lenio Raue

Wasn't it horrible? Now the point about a sacrifice is that it doesn't count unless the thing you sacrifice has value to you. The gods demand that, but then they would. I didn't like it either, and my dog didn't speak to me for three days!

Q

Thank you for your great books! I am looking forward to the next one in the Uhtred story. Hope it comes soon. Best wishes Thomas

Q

Please do not be offended that I am just discovering your work.....but I am delighting in having discovered it. I loved the Arthur series once I figured out how to pronounce the names in my head. I devoured the Starbuck books only to find out that you have left me at Antietam. I was actually afraid to read the last chapter for fear you were going to kill him off. thanks for not doing that but PLEASE bring back Starbuck. My next venture will be the Sharpe books as I remember the character from a PBS series and now realize he is your work. Thanks for giving an adult reader something to treasure. Doadi Rockwell

Q

Bernard, I really enjoy your books, thank you. I'd very much like to see Uhtred on TV: Sharpe was such a success on TV, it would be great to follow on with Uhtred. Any one looking for finance, many of us would make a small investment! Best Regards, Ian.

I just wanted to let you know I have become a quite a fan. My first book was the Burning Land but I have just caught up on the rest of Saxon series. I love the history brought to life and they are as vivid as a movie. Thank you. I am heading back to the UK in November and I am most anxious to pick up 'Death of Kings'

I have just finished reading your book Gallows Thief, we are staying on a caravan site in Scotland and i picked this book up from the service room, took it to the caravan and read it in one day which is very unusual for me, it was the best read I have had for a very long time. I will be reading more of your books in the future, many thanks.

Q

Dear Bernard One of your posters mentioned a Sharpe box set. I remember seeing a box set of the "India" paperbacks a few years ago, Not sure if this helps or is still available regards Steven

Q

Hi, I have just finished, at 5am in the UK, The Fort while waiting to watch the quarter final in the Rugby World Cup! I SO enjoyed the book. The Historical Note at the end was fascinating. Never twigged the John Moore was THAT John Moore. And you are so right, JM does deserve more literature, even a novel! Now off to research Castine etc. and one day I hope to get there. I have cousins in Maine so I may well make the trip. Thanks again for keeping me awake! You are a damned fine writer. Regards Craig

Hope you do get to Castine - it's well worth a visit!

I could put the book down, this was the first pleasure book I had read in over 60 years. My wife reads every book in the libraries, is so pleased and my eagerness is great.
