Sir, Just a brief comment. In "Sharpe's Fortress", one of the characters uses "jackrabbit" in a simile. This seems to me impossible, since jackrabbits are native to western North America and little was known of the area in 1803 much less to an Englishman on the far side of the world. Just a minor nit in an otherwise thoroughly entertaining and masterful work. Your novels bring history to life. Sincerely, Bob Cunningham Mount Sterling, KY

Thank you, and you're quite right - I'm an idiot. Oh well, thank you for correcting me so gently!

I just wanted to thank you, recently completed all 21(?) Sharpe's books and enjoyed them immensely. I started in 2008 and read them along with all the Patrick O'Brien Aubrey/Maturin novels, I feel pretty well versed in the Napoleonic Wars, at least from the British side anyway. Thank you!!!! Looking forward to the next book in your Saxon series, I just saw on the web site that it's coming out in the US this January. Thank you again Mr. Cornwell for many hours of joyfull, entertaining reading, and history (I often checked out battles and locations and people from your books on wikipedia to be further enlightened).

Dear Bernard, Thanks so much for creating such a character as Sharpe. I am finding (mostly) these days that historical fiction is rarely anything like the real thing, but I have to say I love the Sean Bean series, and I have only just recently bought my first two Sharpe original novels, and am looking forward to getting the rest as soon as possible. I haven't even finished Sharpe's Triumph yet, but this title so far is more than apt. What I love most is that the descriptions of the full terror of war is something you haven't shied away from, and I wish to thank you for that. I don't like films or series or books that make out war to be glossy and fun. No, I like to read something more closer to real life than fiction, and that is what Sharpe is to me. My Dad loves the TV series too, but I'm into getting the books to see all the differences there are from the TV series: one things for sure, if Triumph is anything to go by, then this series I'm just discovering now in book format is going to be just brilliant. Thank you for writing such a great Character Bernard, and I'm looking forward to any more Sharpe novels there might be in you to come! Keep on staying real!

Loved the latest Uhtred novel. I have come to love Uhtred the same way I loved Sharpe and Derfel. I think if you mix Derfel and Sharpe together and toss the result into King Alfred's rein, you get a tall, blonde Saxon with the heart of a Dane or at least a 'Northman' bent on 'viking.' You have done it again, and I applaud you. I have both read and listened to audio of The Death of Kings, (I went back and read the other books in the months and weeks prior to the release)and I am thrilled as I always seem to be with your stories. Excellent book. Long Live Uhtred of Bamburgh!

Q

I have read several of your books, but the Saxon series is far and away my fave. I love the character of Uhtred of B. I'm a confirmed Vikingophile and pagan at heart I also am a recent UCLA grad (BA History). I plan to go to grad school soon to pursue my historical studies further. Your obvious disapproval of Christianity is hysterical, as you take every opportunity to berate it throughout the Saxon series. On the other hand, you obviously have a fair amount of reverence for the Viking culture. I just finished Sword Song & am about to commence with the next (last?) one. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your awesome books. You're the man. . .Erik Axelsson

I would like to thank you for your talk on the 29th of September, my 9 year old son said that he wishes that you were his history teacher. I did like your explanation regarding the first line of the book and I love knowing that every time it gets mentioned chicflick books get put in their rightful place of utter drivel

Mr. Cornwell, Last Christmas 2010, my son Mark gave me an Amazon Kindle as a gift. I read about 16 novels thru April of 2011. My wife introduced me to my first novel by you called Sharpe's Tiger. I was hooked! I just finished my 21st novel in the Sharp series (Oct.2011) I hope you can write more of Richard Sharpe in the future. Meanwhile I will certainly go on to read some of your other series. You are a great historical fiction writer. Jerome Kuzma

Q

Thank You---So very much for your next novel "Death of Kings"----I love all of your work but especially Lord Uhtred's adventures----waiting patiently until 2012. Best Regards, Edward Errett Bradford

I am two thirds the way through The Death of Kings, and of course it's totally and utterly wonderful. I have one complaint tho', can you write longer stories? I just devour your books so quickly, then have to spend months waiting for the next. And I can't re-read all of them over and over, hmmmmm or can I? keep up the fabulous work. Trevor.
