Thank you so very much for your Grail Quest and Saxon Stories novels. I am a just-retired US Army colonel, who served as a combatant in one of our wars (Vietnam) and as a logistician in another (Desert Storm). So, I have some experience -- yet I MARVEL at what the archers, infantry, and cavalry of your novels went through to "fight their wars. I have "thrust and parried" ad nauseum and have been exhausted. Thank you for making the soldiers of "Merry Olde" so REAL to us.

Hello Mr Cornwell! I must admit that I have not written any fan mail since I was about 14 years of age (I am now 36). This message is a simple thank you. I love your work and own 40 of your books; I plan to read all of your work in time of course! There are other authors I admire but for one reason I prefer your work above others, I believe you have a great gift for creating characters. Your characters are so brilliantly realised and believable. When I am reading one of your stories I always feel that I am among friends even just a few pages in! Obviously I love Sharpe, but also Derfel and Uhtred. When I read, these men seem so real to me, like men I know. I have very, very rarely experienced this in the work of other writers. So I simply felt the need to thank you for all of your hard work, which I appreciate so much! Thank you for entertaining and educating me, for increasing my enjoyment of History and for the good company your stories provide! If you keep writing then I promise to keep reading! Respect and regards Richard Mallatratt (Brighton, East Sussex, UK)
I have just finished the latest of the Saxon stories and continue to be enthralled. It is a period of history in which I have a great interest. We listened to the first few books as talking books on our travels in Queensland and then in the Pilbara and Kimberleys of northern Western Australia. Would make an excellent TV series with Richard Armitage as Uhtred (he read a couple of the books and is totally him. I have also read the Arthur series .. Best stories I've read of that period. Thank you, thank you Cheers, Rosie
Thank you so much for the Alfred series and all the best with the rest.

Dear Bernard, I practice as a GP on the North East Coast of England.Over the years the very elderly have referred to their hip as "my lisk" This always sounded Viking to me. It appears that "lyske " is Norwegian for groin . I was telling an old lady that her husband calls his arthritic hip his Lyske because he is almost certainly of Viking origin. She looked utterly unimpressed and said "that explains his bloody temper" . Perhaps the heirs of Ragnar are alive and well in East Cleveland . Thought you and your readers may find this as interesting as I do .Thanks for years of reading pleasure. Dr. Neil Brownlee
The heirs of Ragnar are very much alive in the Northern and Eastern parts of England - their place names are still used, and of course many Scandinavian words entered English - skull, sky, skeleton, egg - but I've not heard 'lisk' before! Thank you so much - it's a fascinating message!
Hello Mr Cornwell... I'm another of your many happy fans. Sending you the url for a column I just wrote upon reading a number of your books in one big gulp. If you'd care to take a look: http://wordsonbooks.blogspot.com/2009/11/on-cornwell.html.

Just thought I would write a E mail to say I have just spent some time changing my life while in prison in Scotland. While learning to read, my personal officer brought me some of your books and I have to say I loved them. I have read all of Grail series and in fact all except the Sharpe series and am looking forward to purchasing Burning Land very soon. I read them to my boys at night and they too love it so thanks and keep up the good writing.
