Q

Dear Mr. Cornwell, I just want to congratulate you for your books and thank you for the good moments. I like specially them in audiobook format as that helps me with my English. Last week my daughter had heart surgery and I stayed with her while at the special cares unit throughout the night. Having some of your Sharpe novels on the headphones helped a lot keep me awake looking at the monitors. It made it far more bearable. Now my daughter has fully recovered and I thought that it would be nice to let you know how your work helped me. My favourite is the series about Arthur but that one is too short. So I am listening to all the Sharpe's series for the second time now. Thanks again and best regards, Andres

Thank you! I am very glad to hear your daughter has fully recovered. Please give her my best wishes!

Q

Dear Bernard, I keep asking myself why it took me so long to 'discover' your novels. I was aware of Sharpe for a numbers of years but stubbornly ignored them to my chagrin. Anyway when 'The Last Kingdom' came along my interest was well and truly piqued. And now, like so many other fans, I am hooked. I love the Saxon Stories and am having a hard time enduring the wait until the next installment. I loved the Grail Quest series and so finally I arrived at Sharpe. I have read them all from start to finish. Well almost. Having found myself almost unable to put them down I am now dallying because it is the last one, and I don't won't it to end. Thank you so much for all the hours of entertainment. Eagerly awaiting the release of Azincourt. Thanks, Martin

Q

I love your Sharpe series and have very much enjoyed the Grail and Saxon series. Please, and I hope you don't take this as a suggestion, write something about Roman England. I keep wanting to read a story from you set in this time period. Thank you for the wonderful tales you have bought to life and the hours of learning and entertainment. Respectfully, M. Shrum Texas A&M University History Major Class of 2000

A Roman tale? Sorry, it won't happen. It isn't that I dislike the period (quite the contrary), but I've never done the research . . . and there are already several excellent authors writing about the period and I'm happy to leave the field to them!

Q

First I would like to say a big thank you for giving me endless hours, days of reading pleasure. Your books are wonderful, as are the characters. Can't wait to pass the books on to my sons so they can get the same enjoyment. Hope sometime soon you write another Starbuck book as he's been left in limbo for to long. Another Sharpe book would be nice, but I'm guessing your running out of historical battles/event to involve him in. Can't wait for Agincourt, keep up the writing and thank you again. I was just browsing through the Reading Club selections and found that I've read some of them and will read many more. My one comment is for anyone who reads Conn Iggulden's Emperor Series. They are fantastic books and I also recommend them to anyone who enjoys historical fiction. But he does take huge liberties with history so I find it helpful to read his historical notes at the end of the story before I actually begin reading the books. Enjoy!!

I picked up Lords of the North on vacation last month for some escapist reading and I was hooked on the story of Uhtred from the first page to the last. It was a great read. Later I was overjoyed to see that The Fight for London was on the bookshelf. I was thoroughly enthralled with the story and captivated by your writing. I couldn't put I down. I seldom read fiction as I have an extensive American Civil War library but I now on the journey with Uhtred. A great story. Please forgive enthusiasm but your writing rivals Steven Pressfield's as in Gates of Fire. I'm now looking forward to the next edition and proceeding to get those editions that preceded the Lords of the North. Hope this note finds you well. Sincerely, Mark E. Layng, Esq. ps: Fate is inexorable...

Q

Mr Cornwell Just a very very quick one. I just like to say thank you for writing such splendid books. When i was growing up i was never a big reader and watching the Sharpe series was one of the main reasons that got me into history; that and Terry Jones' crusader programmes. Since i went to uni, to read history, i really got into your books and am currently re-reading your Thomas of Hookton books again, which at the time was a suggested read when i was studying the period by Anne Curry at Reading (unofficially of course). Anyway i'm glad to hear that you are working on a new book and look forward to reading it. Keep up the good work. yours Nick Balfour, 25, Muswell Hill, London p.s. i don't know if anyone else shares this view as it might come across a bit weird from a Sharpe fan, but you have yet to pass Obadiah Hakeswill as a character!!!!!!! and no i do not have any first editions :(

Q

Mr. Cornwell, I just wanted to thank you for writing such amazing and captivating stories. I have long been interested in the Napoleonic wars and was always looking for books that would cover the period. I looked and looked and then suddenly, there was Sharpe's Fortress! I began reading the series out of order (I didn't think to look at the back of the book and see the actual order) But in the end, this series became my favorite. I became obsessed with the TV series with Sean Bean, and bought those too. I recently bought the Grail series and was not disappointed, your writing is both superb and captivating, and your historical detail astonishes me! Please consider this my thanks for giving me hours of reading pleasure and excitement. Your books are the standard by which I measure all other historical fiction novels. So thank you again Mr. Cornwell, and I look forward to reading the rest of your books. Thank you again! Gabriel Moreno

Q

Mr. Cornwell, I was just a young pre-teen when I stumbled upon the Winter King, and since I have not been able to put down any of your books. I appreciate the depth in which you describe the battles and the strategy both in the political and social arenas. Currently Uhtred is my favorite character, his sense of humor is so refreshing, and the people he surrounds himself with are so colorful. I can't wait for the next installment. Thank you for all the wonderful hours of pure delight! Naomi Doboze

I've read: Saxon Tales Grail Quest Richard Sharpe through "Sharpe's Prey" Just finished Stormchild and starting "Stonehenge". "Stonehenge" brings to mind "The Delight Makers" by Adolph Bandelier, the archaeologist and ethnologist after whom the Bandelier National Monument in New Mexico is named. He wrote the novel based on his studies there, and I think it's a good story. I write this just in case, probably a slim chance, that you've not read it yet. Thank you very much for all your stories!

Your slim chance, alas, is accurate . . . I'd not heard of the book! But I will find it, thank you!
