Just a brief message... I wouldn't ordinarily go to the trouble of troubling a writer but I wanted to say that I've enjoyed your Arthurian and subsequently your Sharpe series immensely. What really moved me to send you an email was when I read more about your 'philosophy' on writing - it really struck a chord with my own thoughts on the subject and inspired me to get my arse moving on my own writing. That and I hope it will get me out of this law office (lawyers huh?) Anyway, just thought it was worth mentioning that I've really appreciated the effort you've made to reflect on your own experiences with writing. Tim

Best of luck to you!

Dear Mr Cornwell - re Mark posted 17/09, I too love everything written by you, but I was saddened and upset to read Mark say he didn't want you to write anymore Sharpe stories but to write more for his favourite series. We each have our own personal favourites, Sharpe/Harper and the Chosen men are mine and I cannot help but hope that one day you will have another fascinating escapade for Sharpe and the lads to slot into the series. If the spirit moves you - why not? Thank you for all the great stories and images you have created. Kind regards S

There will be more Sharpe!

Q

Dear Mr Cornwell, As a child I was never a 'strong' reader, I believe it came from having to stand up in the classroom and read out loud, however, having now retired (55) and moved to live in Southern Spain my situation has changed. Thanks to your incredible books I have discovered just what I have been missing all these years. I have now read most, if not all of your works from Stonehenge to Arthur, from Uhtred to Thomas and of course my favourite, Richard Sharpe. I am currently reading Richard Sharpe's exploits again and hope to visit some of the battle grounds and siege towns very soon. I have never enjoyed history so much. I thank you most sincerely. Peter Stott

I have just started reading your Saxon books and read three in one week. Now I shall buy the fourth. Then I'll buy and read the Arthur series, etc. I'm descended from such warriors as Sir Ewen Cameron of Lochiel, Somerled, Achilles, Mark Antony, King David of Israel, so this 64 year old retired librarian is thrilled by your writing! I will buy and read all your books. I love your Uhtred character; he's such a warrior. Please take very good care of yourself for at least the next twenty years. Now I have your books to savour when I'm not working my horses. Cheers and many thanks for your gift to bloodthirsty, old librarians! Rosemary Cameron

Q

I just happened to be googling the name Uhtred due to the fact that I am reading 'Lords of the North' at the moment. I just wanted to say I have enjoyed reading all the Sharp's novels and now I am well into Uhtred. You have actually got me reading up on Anglo Saxon History. Now look what you have done !!!! Thanks again for you brilliant storylines. regards Terry Carter (author Birmingham Pals)

Thank-you so much for filling my life with pleasure. I am very addicted to historical fiction and as I am from Bristol, I am especially interested in British history. I have followed the story of the Grail, Arthur and so on all my life...I am now a grandmother age 60 with 8 grandchildren. Every morning I spend a couple of hours with my tea and your books...thank-you for making my life full. You bring the characters to life and I have even dreamed of them in their full battle gear....what an amazing experience. I can't say thank-you enough...The Great "God"...gave you a wonderful gift....Janny

Hi Bernard You don't write quickly enough!!!! I've read everything 2 - 3 times over. I can't begin to tell you how much pleasure and relaxation I get from losing myself in your books. As well as you being an excellent story teller your books give a much more interesting view of military history than strictly non-fiction reading. I see your new book on Agincourt will be out this year...I can't wait. If you're ever around The Wirral give me a shout and I'll get the kettle on. Keep on keepin' on. Phil.

I have just finished reading Crusade by Robyn Young, I recommended it. I live in Spain and the temperature has hit the 30s°C. I am savouring the moment before I start reading, once again, the Sharpe series. I love reading Sharpe's Tiger, then Sharpe's Triumph e.t.c. especially Sharpe's Trafalgar. Bliss. Jane

Q

Dear Bernard, firstly just a short thank you for your work. As well as the sheer enjoyment of reading your novels they also prod me into doing historical reading. For example I have become very interested in the American civil war and also read quite a lot on early Saxon history as a direct result of reading your books. I am looking forward to your new book and wondered if there was to be an associated tour in the UK? Than you Stephen Cooper

A

I will be in the UK for the release of Azincourt - but dates and venues are not confirmed just yet. Keep an eye on the Diary page of this website; an itinerary should be posted there soon!

Having just bought a further copy of Enemy of God; the first two having been lent to friends; I feel bound to write to Penguin to point out that you say in your summary in Excalibur that you wanted to avoid plate armour and lances but they are on the front cover! And stirrups! Damn their eyes! I am a lawyer in Scotland and I believe I have read most of your books. I am a particular fan of the Uhtred novels and look forward to the next instalment. All of your books have given me great pleasure and if you are ever in East Lothian I will happily buy you lunch. Yours aye Geoff Clarke
