Your Questions

Q

Hello, would like to know if you are every going to have the Sharpe books published by Easton press? To have them in leather would be wonderful. Thank you for your time from a big fan. Chris Keenan

A

No plans for it at the moment.

Q

I've purchased, downloaded and read a few of your books in eBook form, and have definately enjoyed the Sharpe's series of DVD's. What I have wanted to do is acquire the full series of Sharpe's novels, but after a fair amount of research this past week, I can find little other than the most recent title available in hardcover format. Therein lies the rub... I typically don't collect paperbacks, and I'm really wanting to acquire a full set of your novels in hardcover... very much like I've already done with O'Brien's Aubrey/Maturin series. Aside from Amazon (which doens't have any hardover in stock), is there any other source I might be able to contact to acquire a set? I recognize you're a busy man, but do appreciate whatever little time you can give me. Best regards, and thanks for a heck of a story series. C.D. Pond, Calgary, AB Canada.

A

Used book sites, such as abebooks.com and alibris.com, might be good places to try. And book dealers who specialise in out-of-print hardbacks can be very helpful as well. Good luck!

Q

Hello, Mr. Cornwell. I stumbled across "The Last Kingdom" when it came out, purchased it because the cover looked interesting and have since then read "The Arthur books", "Stonehenge", "The Grail Quest", and "The Pale Horseman". My appetite for your books is insatiable, and I have read many of the books I have more than once. I am interested in reading the Sharpe books- would you recomend reading in the order written, or in historical order?
Joel Surgeon

A

I generally recommend reading them in chronological order. You will find a correct listing of the books on the Sharpe books page of this website.

Q

I have greatly enjoyed nearly all of your books, the ones I haven't enjoyed I haven't found as yet but I continue looking. In any case my question concerns the Penguin editions sold in the US. Are they your complete novels? Several people have assured me they are based on the screenplays of your novels. I would hate to think I must start purchasing them all again. Thanks Jim Johnston

A

The films are based on the novels - not the other way around. The Penguin editions are the complete books.

Q

Mr. Cornwell, I am a huge fan of your Sharpe series. I'll admit, I was introduced to the novels through the movies (big Sean Bean fan), but I quickly went through every one of the older books (many of time two or three times) and devoured every new one within days of it's release. I was just wondering if you have a certain number more you plan to write and if you know when the next one will be out? Thanks a lot! -Carrie Dragicevic

A

A new Sharpe is just out - Sharpe's Fury. After that? How many more Sharpe? I honestly don't know, and have never really sat down to plan them out. Four more? Five more? Truly can't tell.

Q

Dear Bernard. I really must write to congratulate you on your work. The Arthur trilogy is my favourite with the Grail Quest following a close second. I just hope that one day we will get to see the Arthur trilogy on the big screen. Dark age warlords, confederates, riflemen, saxons and archers, whats next? oh go on, put me out of my misery. Adam Chandler

Hi,I am a huge fan of yours.I own and have read and reread all the books from the following series of your books:The Arthur Books , Stonehenge , The Grail Quest ,and The Saxon Stories.Lords of the North being my latest .I would like to thank you for renewing a fascination I have held for medieval Great Britain .I especially liked the Arthur BOOKS.The arthurian legend is particularly interesting as there is so many opinions on its authenticity and there are many variations of the story. My question I have ,is there any future plans to translate either the arthur books or the saxon stories to film, whether it takes the form of amovie or a t.v. mini series? The sharpe series was very good on screen and I think that either the arthur books ,or the saxon stories would be as good or better. I feel qualified to say this as I own the complete set of the sharpe dvds.I am also on my third reading of the arthur books. You are a gifted storyteller, keep the books coming as I can`t wait to read the next segment of Uhtred`s adventures. possibly your greatest north american fan, David Woodcock

Hi, First, thanks for giving me so much pleasure from reading since I picked up a copy of Sharpes Eagle paperback in the early 1990's at Hammicks! Now, about your three magnificent and wonderful trilogies (Arthur, Grail Quest, Alfred) ... we have seen in recent years by directors such as Ridley Scott (Gladiator) and Peter Jackson (LOTR trilogy) how well epics can be done if the right guy is at the helm with the right budget and team... Is there any chance of you demanding a production of that quality (and scale) when they finally come to you for the movie rights rather than a cheap and cheerful one? Finally I'd just like to add my voice to all the others asking for a sequel to Gallows Thief and a finish for the Starbuck Chronicles - and once again, thanks for so much pleasure over the years! Philip Livingstone

A

Thank you! No plans for more films at the moment, but I'd be happy to see it happen.

Q

Hi Bernard, Have just bought Sharpes Fury and noticed the dedication to Eric Sykes. Is this that very talented comedian and writer from Britain? If so,can I also be very nosey and ask why? Russ Blackdog

A

It is. Why? Because I've known Eric for some time, like him hugely (he's an extaordinarily kind and nice man), and, happily, he's a great fan of Richard Sharpe.

Q

I am working my way with much satisfaction through your Sharpe novels. I have seen the listings for the proposed tour of signings for 'Sharpe's Fury'. Can you tell me if this is an exhaustive itinerary, or will other venues be added? I shall have to travel from Scotland otherwise. All best wishes, and many thanks for the excellent books. Keith Lindsay

A

No plans to add any other venues as far as I know.

Q

I enjoy the Sharpe books very much. I noticed in your diary section you have listed your UK book tour for Sharpes Fury. Do you have a US book tour planned? Hopefully close to home in Massachusetts?
Lynne

A

Sorry Lynne - no plans for a US book tour at this time...

Q

dear sir, sorry to take up your time but could you tell me in which title Sharpe is promoted from ensign to lt. I thought that I had followed chronologicly but I can't seem to pick the correct novel. thank you very much for you time. Graham Fitzpatrick

A

He's an Ensign in India, after that, because he joins the Rifles (who didn't use the rank Ensign) he's a lieutenant.
