Your Questions

Q

Hello Mr. Cornwell,

I'd like to point your attention to a sentence in "Death of Kings" Chapter 8, which I believe is a mistake:

"The house had once belonged to the older Æthelred, Ealdorman of Mercia and husband to my father’s sister"

Through all the instances where that relations was mentioned before, the older Æthelred was the brother of Uhtred's mother.

Aside from that, I am enjoying the series and thank you for it.

I’m sure you’re right, I’ll check, and thank you

Q

Hi Mr. Cornwell,

Firstly, may I say how much I love your work (In fact you are the only author of fiction I read)

One of the things I love most about your work, apart from the superior level of depth to your characters, is the meticulous level of detail present in your depiction of battle scenes. Having read all of the Warrior Chronicles series to date I was wondering how you overcame the challenges of researching and depicting battles about which so little is known in comparison to the Peninsular War and American Civil War? As the basic framework of these battles is known I would imagine the level of artistic licence afforded by the Arthur series would not be as great.

Many thanks for all the hours of pleasure you have given me!

A

You talk to re-enactors, read the contemporary battle poetry, read whatever historians deal with the subject, and then add lashings of imagination!

Q

Dear Mr Cornwell

I am thirteen years old and I have read all of your books about Uhtred exept for Warriors of the storm, which i will be reading soon. I would just like to ask you if Uhtred will ever retake Bebbanburg as I would love him too.

Many thanks,

Toby.

Q

Dear Mr Cornwell,

I just wanted to say how much have enjoyed the Saxon Stories. A year is an unbearable amount of time to wait for the next in the series. I particularly like the way Uhtred employs guile and strategy as well as sheer force of arms to achieve an outcome.

I come originally from a Saxon clan ('Bicanleag') so these tales have a real resonance for me.

I'd really like someone to write to me explaining how to phonetically say 'Wyrd bid ful araed'. Maybe I should contact Saxon scholar Michael Wood.

Thank you for giving me so much pleasure in these remarkable books but also for providing a leap in time by which we can better understand the world of Alfred and Uhtred.

Q

I JUST FINISHED READING THE GRAIL QUEST. ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. THOMAS AND ROBBIE ARE VERY INTERESTING CHARACTERS, AND THE DESCRIPTIONS OF THE TOWNS THEY TRAVELED TO TRANSPORT YOU BACK IN TIME. I'M STARTING TO READ STONEHENGE NEXT, BUT MY QUESTION IS DO YOU THINK YOU WILL DO A ROBIN HOOD STORY, OR MAYBE AN ADAM BELL?  WELL WHATEVER YOU DECIDE I'M SURE IT WILL BE A GREAT QUALITY READ AS YOUR OTHER BOOKS ARE, AND IT WILL MOST LIKELY FIND A SPACE ON MY SHELF. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND FOR BEING AN EXCELLENT AUTHOR

JEFF GLAUDE

A

I have given Robin Hood some thought,,,,

Q

Starbuck

20 years!!! How much longer do we have to wait

A desperate reader.

Chris Wilson

Its almost 20 years since you wrote The Bloody Ground (1996) And ended it saying "our heroes would march on".

I wonder if they are still marching? You seem to write mainly Saxon and Dark Ages books when can we expect the Starbuck stories to start again before one of us dies?

Anne Nash

Hello

I am a fan of your writing and have read and enjoyed pretty much everything you have written, I love the Sharpe and warlord chronicle but my question is are you planning on releasing any more of the Starbuck Chronicles as I have really enjoyed those too.

Regards

Scott Lee Yates

Mr Cornwell,

I have read all your books and have liked your latest work With the Warrior Chronicles. I am just wondering if you ever plan to bring back Nate. I first read those in Jr High. I have since bought most of the books if not all on my Kindle. I love all the books but being a Southern American and having first come across your work in the Starbuck Chronicles, i can't help but wonder if Nate will ever ride again. Will he and Potter survive the war? My greatest fear is you won't finish the series. I hope you do but time is not on the side of Starbuck.

Michael Morgan

Greetings :) I love your writing :)

Please, please work on the Starbuck Chronicles again. I just love that series and have re-read the 4 books, probably 10 times. I never write to authors but please work on this series again :)

Thank you,

Jane

A

I hope to return to Starbuck one of these days!

Q

Dear Bernard

I was introduced to your books 20 years ago through the Arthur trilogy. I still go back to it regularly. Your books have been my friends and companions ever since. I can't begin to express the joy they've brought me. Thank you.

Ever since the fabulous Arthur trilogy I've wanted to ask you - beg you - please think about writing the definitive Robin Hood. I loved these tales as a child, from Richard Green and the Ladybird books to the rather staid "classics". Since then, nothing has come near. A succession of second rate tv series and even worse films. PLEASE don't dismiss the idea out of hand. You ARE the man to reinterpret the legend of Robin Hood and give it plausible historical context.

Yours in gratitude and hope

David Whitaker.

A

I've given Robin Hood some thought.....we'll see!

Q

Just two quick questions Sir...

DO you think you will every revisit Rider Sandman? I have to say the name troubled me but I loved the story.

AND are you at all familiar with William Dietrich's novels of the Napoleonic wars, and if so what do you think of them? I find myself conflicted.

I've been a fan of yours for I think I can literally say decades now; its been nice to speak to you, or more likely at you.

yours,

JE

A

I've given Rider Sandman some thought - but I'm not sure I'll ever get back to him.

I’ve never read them, shame to say.

Q

Hi

Love reading your sharpe stories.

Have you ever thought of doing more of them ?

Sharpe could come back to England and start a new life after the wars!

And with Sean Bean of course!!

Martin West

will there be another novel with Sharpe?

Bob Ogus

A

It's possible there will be another Sharpe book.

Q

I have just finished book 9 of The Saxon Stories, having read them all in a week (my husband says he could cite them as grounds for divorce), needless to say I am addicted.  I now feel a bit bereft.  Please tell me you will/are writing book 10, I need closure.

Thank you for this absorbing story.

Ann

Hello Mr Cornwell.

I have just finished reading warriors of the storm. Can i first say a big thankyou. I love your work and these are my best books ever. I was wondering when you roughly expect the next book to be published.

Thank you

Graham
