Your Questions

Q

Have you visited the battle site of Brunanburh or do you plan to visit it and have you met Stephen Harding?  I went on a walk with him and members of Viking Chester from Ellesmere Port to Chester St Olaf's church (closed) to celebrate St Olaf's day.

Peter Brown

A

I haven’t visited yet and suspect it’s changed utterly, but I plan to visit within the next few years!

Q

Hi Bernard,

Any chance of a return to Sharpe or Starbuck? I enjoy the warrior chronicles but I'm starting to miss Sharpe and Henri Lassan!

Thank youj

Sean

A

It's possible....not sure when??

Q

Will Warriors of the Storm be available in audible soon?

Reilly

Just wondering if you had any news on when the audio book version of the ninth book in the saxon story series will be released? I got into your books this year and have flown through them very quick, thanks to the audio books. Funny side note, the whole time I was listening, I was thinking they have to make this into a TV series. Next thing you know there's a TV show, and its actually done well!

Best,

Chip Barnes

Q

I have just enjoyed reading the 3 Arthur books back to back. I think your interpretation of the Arthur legend is spot on and realistic. Really like the approach you took to Lancelot. Have you ever been approached by film companies to adapt for film?

Each book would be a good film in its own right. This came to mind as I read about the Last Kingdom series.

Andrew Stapleton

A

There's been some talk about it, but I'm afraid I don't pay much attention to it....

Q

You cannot imagine how excited I became upon learning that the 9th book in the Saxon Series was to be released on the same weekend that The Last Kingdom made its debut. I have been reading your novels for nearly two years now and have enjoyed each story immensely. Mostly, I look forward to reading your work to offset the dullness of law school casebooks, though I have appreciated and benefited from the incidental education in British history. Americans tend to forget that England existed before the colonial era.

I have a few questions:

1) How closely does the Last Kingdom television series reflect the world you imagined? I am especially curious if the Bebbanburg fortress is accurately presented.

1) Do you find it more or less enjoyable to write about periods where historical records are sparse?

2) Have you considered writing about Roman-occupied England?

3) Do you have any book signings planned in the US?

Thanks!

Jeff

A

It reflects the world very closely! Bebbanburg, perhaps, was (and is) built on a great outcrop of rock, but the one in the film version still looks amazingly formidable!

I’m not sure! I enjoy both, I think! It’s sometimes easier when the records are sparse, but on the other hand the research is a lot easier when it’s plentiful!

No plans for the Romans.

I don't have anything scheduled right now, but keep an eye on the homepage of this website in case that changes.

Q

Hello,

Over the last two weeks I saw the trailer for the upcoming tv series " The Last Kingdom" on BBC tv, how will this tv series impact on your life after it is shown? The Michael Jackson Lord of the Rings films  brought about a  Tolkien revival. Is the comparison between you and Tolkien valid? Aside from the fact Tolkien can't really enjoy the posthumous success and  you can!

Regards,

Adrian.

A

To be honest?  I don’t expect it (or want it) to have any impact! I enjoy watching the series (a lot!), but my job is to keep writing . . . . . and no, I don’t think there’s any comparison with Tolkien! He’s way above my aspirations!

Q

Mr. Cornwell,

I live in Serbia, and I 'm a big fan.

I just want to ask, why do not you write about the Slavic Tribes?

Marko

A

Because I know nothing about them!

Q

Gallows Thief -

Some time ago, you indicated that you were going to do a second book in this genre - is it anywhere on the drawing board?

Bill Pope

A

I've given it some thought....but I'm not sure if I'll ever get to it...

Q

Hi Bernard!

I have just finished re reading the first 8 Uhtred books to prep me for number 9 (which I have just purchased!), and that reminded me of the tv series. I have just watched the first two episodes and I have to say I am very impressed; so far, so good!

I had one question and was hoping you could offer insight, back when the tv series was announced they said it would be one episode of 60 minutes per book. I remember being horrified at the time because so much of the intricacy must be lost to whittle it down to one hour per book. Fortunately upon seeing the first two episodes it would seem that this is definitely not the case.

I was just wondering if you have any idea which books the first series comprises of, and will there be future series? I don't know what would be worse, 8 books crammed into 8 hours, or Uhtred's story left unfinished!

Please keep up the great writing, I never tire of your work and cant wait to get stuck into Warriors of the Storm.

Thankyou very much for your time

Corey (from Hexham, Northumbria!)

A

Oh no!  I don't remember anyone saying that!  The first season (8 episodes) will be based on the first two books of the series, The Last Kingdom and The Pale Horseman.  Hope you'll enjoy it!

Q

Dear Mr. Cornwell,

I am a fan of your work. As a Turkish resident; i'd love to read the history of Gallipoli and the Turkish independence war (that led to the end of Ottoman Empire and rise of Turkish Republic) in one of your future books. Hope to hear from you about your thoughts on this.

Ali

I’m just not attracted 20th Century history, so it’s most unlikely – sorry!
