Your Questions

Q

Dear Mr Cornwell,

I have read and enjoyed all your books, particularly the Sharpe series and the Warlord series.

My question is do you expect to write and have published the last novel about Uhtred in the relatively near future as I am getting on in years and, if you do not mind me saying, you are no longer a youngster. I do not want either of us to miss the conclusion of a series I have enjoyed reading and  I am sure you have enjoyed writing.

Best regards,

Ian Michelmore

A

The last novel?  That has to be a few years away, maybe five or six? I take your point, though, so maybe I should accelerate the tale?

Q

Hi Bernard,

My name is Renan, I'm Brazilian, and I am a big fan of you, your books are simply amazing!! Sorry for my bad English, I'm learning yet.

I already read The Saxon Stories, The Warlord Chronicles and Grail Quest.

I have a question for you, is about The Warlord  Chronicles. I know that the trilogy was written a long time, but are there any plans to bring it to television? Or ever was a plan?

Renan Epifânio

A

No plans for it!

Q

I would like to know when "The Empty Throne" will be available in german....

Thank you very much for the first seven books, I'm really looking forward to number eight!!!

Martin Quint

I was infected through Rebecca Gable for English history, so I came to the Saxon stories. Meanwhile I have read all your historical books (Sharpe frankly speaking I don´t like) just finished "the Pagan Lord" and was happy to read this was not the  end. Now I am waiting for the Empty Throne. Is there already a translation (German) in progress?

Arno Gerlach

A

My agent tells me the German translation may be ready by May 2015.

Q

Dear Mr. Cornwell:

In case you missed it, see: http://content.usatoday.com/communities/sciencefair/post/2011/07/invasion-of-the-viking-women-unearthed/

I think it's unusual, that after all the archeological work that's been done, and all the books that have been written, this is new [?]

Peter Hansen

Mr. Cornwell,

I am really enjoying reading The Pagan Lord, as I have enjoyed the earlier books in this series, and I wanted to ask you a question. Since you have done such extensive research on the interaction of Norse and Saxon cultures, would you care to comment on the story going around that there were large numbers of female warriors in the ranks of Norse armies? I'm sure other fans of your work would appreciate your informed opinion! Than you!

Here are a couple of links related to that story:

A

Thank you for that!  There are mentions of women fighting, but I suspect it’s rare.  They certainly aren’t the norm and I suspect it only happened in dire emergencies. Nice idea, though!

Q

Sharpe's Father - Seriously I'm starting to get obsessed, but here goes...

Ben Franklin, at the age of twenty-one, established the colonies' first circulation library for all interested citizens

WE TAKE YOUR BOOKS OUT AND YOU GET THEM PUT IN

"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

THIS HAPPY MAN

For want of a shoe the horse was lost

A HORSE APPEARS

Plus Franklin had a bit of a reputation with the ladies and he was on a visit to Paris at about the right time. I know that this may cause a bit of an international scandal but......

Sorry, no!

Q

Hello Mr. Cornwell,

If I am not mistaken I understand The Saxon Stories are being turned into a television series.  I was curious to how much input you are giving on the production, casting, etc?

I am also delighted that you are coming to Toronto but unfortunately due to a military career course I cannot make it. Therefore,  I  Hope you will return to Canada again when you  are able.

all the best,

Ryland Davies

A

My input will be very limited!

Q

Hi

I was wondering if you had any plans to visit IRELAND on your book tour?

Stuart McConnell

A

I would love to be visiting Ireland, but I'm afraid it's not in the plans for this trip.

Q

Mr. Cornwell

I recently listen to "The Last Kingdom" on a audio book. It is a great story. I am a fan of history and war stories.I think it would make a awesome movie.Have you ever considered putting it on screen? In any case I congratulate you on a job well done,

Jim White

Dear Sir.

Absolutely love the character of Uthred . What's the chance of a Sharpe type film?  With Vikings and Game of Thrones so popular. It can't fail.

Many thanks for hours of pleasure, can't wait for the next installment.

Regards

Dane

A

There are plans for films!  With any luck the first one will be shown next year.

Q

I would first like to say that I enjoy reading your book.  It is always hard for me to pick a new book to read when I go to the bookstore but I always look at your books because I know from experience that they are always a good read.  So far I have read books from the Saxon Stories and Grail Quest and they have all been good.I wanted to ask if you ever plan to write another book with Nicholas and Melisandre from Agincourt.  I would like to know what happened to them after the end of the book Agincourt.

Indolfo A. Luna

A

I don't have plans to add to their story right now.

Q

Now... I know this is probably way off, but is Sharpe's dad a guy named Napoleon? Very unlikely, but anymore most guesses are shots in the dark aren't they?  I remember reading somewhere that Napoleon liked to ride horses when he wasn't fighting the coalitions, (in fact he almost died once)

thanks for your time

Chase Stebbing

You wish. I wish. Wrong, though!
