Your Questions

Q

Hello (From a grateful fan)
In the historical note at the end of Sharpe's Triumph you note "...though he did promote two men for conspicuous bravery on the evening of Assaye."  The “He” here is of course Wesley.  I believe the first of these men would be the future Sir Colin Campbell, but who was the second?  I have searched and can find lots of information on Campbell but none on the second man.  Could you please tell me where I might find information about him?
Many Thanks and I can hardly wait for “The Pagan Lord”.  In your free time if you could get Richard and Pat back in their boots it would be much appreciated. (Sarcasm – as I am truly in awe of your entire catalog, and wonder how you have time to respond to people like me)
All the best!

I don’t remember my sources, but I’d start with Jac Weller’s Wellington in India.  Sorry, I wrote the book so long ago it’s all lost in time’s fog.

Q

Hello Mr. Cornwell.
My name is Marco and I'm brasilian. I love your books, especially Saxonic Chronics. I've been almost finished " Death of Kings" and I'm so curious to know what's going on with Uhtred in the book number 7 and when is it coming to Brazil !?
Sorry to waste your time, I know that you're a very busy man.
Marco.

A

The seventh book, The Pagan Lord, will be published in the UK in September.  I'm not sure when it might be available in Brazil, but I would guess maybe September of 2014?

Q

Dear Mr. Bernard Cornwell,
Greetings from Brazil! I love your books from the warrior chronicles and the Arthur books and my questions to you sir are this: When will a movie or a TV series be done about Uhtred and his adventures? It's just common sense to do this haha. Also, are you planing on making new books with characters like Uhtred and Derfel? Thanks for the great books.
Victor.

A

Thank you Victor.  I'm not sure there will be any films or TV shows, but the next book of Uhtred's tale, The Pagan Lord, will be published (in the UK) in September.

Q

Dear Bernard,

Have you got any planned book signing events in the UK for The Pagan Lord?

Regards

Jason

A

No, I'm afraid I will not be in the UK for the release of The Pagan Lord in September.

Q

Dear Mr.Cornwell,
do you know when "The Pagan Lord" will be available in german language? I couldn't find out it another way and I really looking forward to read about Uhtred again and time goes to slow... :-)
Wish you a good time, be blessed!
Yours sincerely,
Frank Wiederstein

A

I believe they may be looking at May 2014 for publication of The Pagan Lord in Germany.

Q

I am on book 5 ("The Burning Land") of the Saxon series, still have "Death of Kings" to go, I see your next book in the series "The Pagan Lord" is coming out shortly.

QUESTION: Why are your books released in England before the U.S.?  "The Pagan Lord" will be out in England in September '13 but not in the U.S. until January '14
Dave Traill

A

It is a decision made by the publishers and the US publisher feels January is a better time.

Q

Big fan of yours! I come from Serbia and I read first five books from The Saxon Stories. I would like to know if you have that information when will be published the sixth book in Serbia. I contacted the publisher here in my country but they don't have that information.

Thanks for your time.
Dušan

A

My agent tells me The Burning Land is scheduled for publication in Serbia in October.

Q

Hi Bernard
I am a great fan of your books and being from Weymouth and Dorchester area of Dorset am fascinated to know if the setting of Hookton was based on a real place?
regards

Si

A

Hookton, I think, is certainly influenced by that whole wonderful coast! I'd say it's just a generic place a few miles south of Dorchester.

Q

X-mas is a good time to give books and read books given, yet year after year you release books in January. If it's for taxes, finish a second book (Thomas of Hookton - Black Prince) some year, pay the dough and everyone will be happier.
I believe you have many 99% finished books. I also believe after people die 99% of the time the wrong people get ahold of the stuff and ruin it. So help out us in the 1% and finish your books.

I only ever work on one book at a time, so I’m sorry, no unfinished books except the one I’m writing!

Q

Dear Mr. Cornwell,
I was just curious about two things:
1. Will Brida and Ragnar appear in the Pagan Lord, since Dunholm is right on the way to  Bebbanburgh?
2. Did you not like Adam Faulconer? To me it just seemed that he was a man who wouldn't physically fight for what he believed in. He just seemed to be more of a politician than a soldier, and when the Bloody Ground came around I thought his character would become more strong and vicious on the battlefield. Instead he died in a somewhat non-climatic way. I just wish we could of gotten more out of his character. I half-way expected Adam and Starbuck to battle each other numerous times throughout the war and slowly gain ranks together. But alas, it was not meant to be. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Christian Wilson

They’re mentioned, but that’s about all!

I liked Adam a lot!  I was sorry when he died, but . . . . .
