Your Questions

Q

Hi Mr. Cornwell. Do you know yet if Azincourt will have a ficticious plot, like the Grail Quest, set against the historical background of the battle? Or will the book's main plot BE the battle itself, with a minimum of fictional elements? Alan Kempner

A

It has a fictitious plot, but one wholly geared to the larger story of the campaign and the battle.

Q

Hello there, I've read several of your books, the Arthurian trilogy, gallows thief and, most recently, stonehenge and I've been captivated by them all! (I feel strangely intimidated by the Sharpe series though!). I was just wondering, really, what you think to the latest archaeological dig at stonehenge? (I believe it's more centered on the 'blue stones'), what you think they could discover, I know it's conjecture, but please, indulge me! I personally hope that find not to much out, because I prefer to believe your novel to be how it was done, as it was so believable! Stephen

Hi Bernard Did you know that excavations are taking place at Stonehenge? I'm just reading your novel on it and it caught my eye. Here is the link for the BBC news site. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7322134.stm Best regards, Andy

A

I did know, though I confess I haven't followed the excavations very closely - astonishingly more than 50% of the monument has never been examined by archaeologists, so it's an exciting project. Thanks for the link!

Q

I just finished reading Sword Song ... Wow! What a great story, and like all of your work, carefully researched, wonderfully written, and non-stop adventure. I have loved all of your book series but must confess that this Saxon Stories has become my favorite. How long must we wait until the next volume in this great series?
Donald Williams

Just wondered when your next saxon book will come out? Terry Kelly

A

Glad to know you like the Saxon books. I haven't started the next one yet, so I don't imagine it will be published until at least 2009.

Q

Good day to you, Mr. Cornwell. I have recently discovered your books, and I can now say that I am an avid reader of your books in particular. I was unfortunate to have had rather a dismal history with literature, due to english teachers that were probably best suited for welding classes. I am now 41 summers, and am so happy to have found, well, you and your works. I am going through your books quickly, and then re-reading. I thank you for your mind, and how you have chosen to use it. I wish you had been my history/english teacher. In a way, you are. My eyes well up as I attempt, woefully I'm sure, to express my gratitude. I recently watched a documentary about Stonehenge, and was pleased to learn of an archer, and perhaps a family member of his/hers buried there also. Did you know of this, and if you did, was there any of this in your books? Forgive me please if this is an old question to you. It is, of course, new to me. I live near Toronto, Ontario. I do hope I will meet you someday. Thank you very much, sir. I wish you and your family well, always. Regards, Cam Goudy

A

The burial of the man with the three arrows in his chest is in the book . . . and I suspect that's the archaeological find you're referring to - if I remember rightly he was wearing a bracer (to protect his arm from the bowstring's lash) so he probably was an archer.

Q

Hello Mr. Cornwell. I am a huge fan, and was wondering if you going to do a reading in the TORONTO , Canada area this year? best...Richard

A

Well nothing's currently on the calendar for Toronto so I don't think so. But check the Diary page every now and again as all appearances will be posted there.

Q

Dear Mr Cornwell I have literally just finished Sword Song and I have to say the Saxon chronicles are brilliant! I am just writing to ask if there are going to be more books in this series? I HOPE SOOOOOO!!!! they are totally brilliant, am just about to start the Winter King. many thanks for writing such wonderful books. yours hopefully, Lina

A

Yes Lina, there will be more!

Q

So will Starbuck ever really march again? It's been 12 years since Antietam, so hopefully he's rested enough to go on to Fredricksburg. I don't see that an overlap between Starbuck and Sharpe is a reason not to go forward with the Starbuck chronicles, but then again, I'm not the one tasked with doing the research and writing required to resurrect him. If he's not gonna march again, though, would appreciate knowing it's not gonna happen. YOS

Will you ever finish the Starbuck Chronicles? It is a great series!!! Steve Frost

A

I hope so!

Q

Way back in the dark ages before I had read Sharpes 21, 3 times. One Saturday lunchtime in WH Smiths I feel sure I came across a reference to a book of yours on the 95th Rifles, either history or stories. Did not buy at the time. But now can not find any trace of. Am I dreaming or does memory ring true? Please advise. Love the books, think the BBC series let you down. Cheers, John

A

Dreaming, I think! Nice dream, though. The Sharpe books are my only books about the 95th. Maybe you're flattering me by confusing me with Mark Urban's great history of the Rifles in the Napoleonic War??

Q

Dear Mr Cornwell,as a big fan of your books especially Sharpe and even more so the Arthur trilogy, will there be any hope of seeing the Arthur books turned into a t.v series like Sharpe? many thanks and keep up the good work. Andy

Are there any plans to turn the Warlord Chronicles into a mini series such as the very successful Sharpe? Regards and keep up the excellent work. Jason Vernon.

A

It would be nice, but I suspect it would prove to be too expensive.

Q

Just wondering about this up coming Azincourt book. Is it part of a preexisting series, or is it something totally new? Thanks, Justin

A

Totally new!
