Your Questions

Q

Hello again, I'm really sorry about this but the last I contacted you I bemoaned the fact that my home town of Andover was listed as a wiltshire town in the saxon series. But appreciated your offer of a pint of hampshire Ale..Can I recommend Gales form Pompey...anyway...I went to buy a colleague a copy of the second book in the Arthur series as an xmas and was struck by the new cover...this seems to me to be about 4 hundred years out of sink. It almost looks like someone has been asked a to draw a picture for an Arthur story and gone with the cliche'd medieval Knights in shining armour type of thing and not read the book, which kind of upset me as I felt the whole attraction of the series was the getting away from this- I guess as a fan we get kind of precious, almost Autistic. I look forward to reading the next in the Saxon series,Also as an adopted child-who now works within Social Services- I am interested in your book on this subject. I met my genetic rellies a few years ago.. Any sorry to moan on again have a great Christmas and New Year

Graham Stovold

A

I'm not even sure I've seen it. . . . maybe, but you're quite right, there are some extraordinary covers out there. I know I was never consulted about the re-drawn covers. I wish I had been!

Q

Hi Mr Cornwell, I love your books, especially the Sharpe adventures and Starbuck books. Have you ever thought about approaching HBO and suggesting turning the Starbuck books into a series or even your Alfred books which are riveting? The US Civil War books are made for TV. Just love Nathanial Starbuck. His character is as good as Richard Sharpe. You have a loyal readership who would love to see more of your books on TV. Robin Smith

A

Thanks Robin, but I take the view that my job is to put books on shelves, not pictures on screens. If it happens, great! but I don't spend much time thinking about it.

Q

Mr Cornwell, I wanted to thank you for all that you do. I have enjoyed reading your writings. I started with the Sharpe series then Grail Quest and the Saxon stories and just finished the Bloody Ground and I love them all. I cannot wait for Jan 08 to finally come. I am patiently waiting for Sword Song to reach the states and also I have a daughter due in Jan as well. I had a question as to what is next. Sharpe? Starbuck? Uhtred? I have enjoyed them the most. Have you considered any writing around the Crusades or with the Templars? Just curious, I am a huge history fan and cannot seem to get enough of it. Thank you again for all that you do and may God Bless you this holiday season. Erik

A

Next is a book on Agincourt.

No plans for the Crusades or Templars.

Q

Hi,as I live near Cannington, the site of the battle where Ubba was killed, I decided to look for the hillfort ,but after 'googling' it I was surprised to read that the hillfort was the site where 'Ubbe Ragnarson was killed'the brother of Halfdan and Ivarr. Who is right you or google?? Jason

A

I have no idea what site you were looking at! It wasn't Google, they just took you to the site. I'd recommend reading John Peddie's book, Alfred, Warrior King.

Q

I've just finished Sword Song - the brilliant forth installment of the Saxon Stories. Having read all your other series ( except Sharpe as it is all on TV ! and I can't read once I have seen it on the screen as it destroys my imagination as my mind automatically puts Sean in the lead role ) I must say that the Saxon stories have to be your best series to date - I thoroughly enjoyed the Arthur Books and have read them through 3 times, but the story of Uhtred really captures the imagination and are a brilliant read - simply can't wait for the next book ! PS. I am a born and bred Lancastrian living in Oswaldtwistle (nr. Blackburn) - any chance of any heroes coming from around here, we always seem to be forgotten even though the Romans and Vikings came through - or should I just wait for you to do a series on War of the Roses . Joking apart - thank you for your writing, and imagination, it really does give a bookworm like me great joy to read your books. yours sincerely, Max Robinson

A

I'm not sure I'll ever tackle the wars of the Roses, but if I do I promise, solemnly, to include Oswaldtwistle!

Q

Bernard, are there going to be anymore in the Starbucks series? As at the end of the Bloody Ground, the story MUST continue. David Kerr

A

Hope so, but I don't know when.

Q

Dear Mr. Cornwell. I'm a reader from Spain so, first of all, excuse my poor English. I've read that, from your own novels, your favourites are the Arthur books. In fact, i like all your novels, but my favourites are those three too. My question is: where those books written with... how can I say it... a bigger amount of love, care or whatever? It's just that they are almost perfect, and I wonder if that's going to be the highlight or your career, 'cause I'm waiting for something like those books since I read them. Not to say I don't like the rest of your novels. I love the Uhtred saga, and the Grail quest, and Sharpe's books (though I think Spaniards are not the most reliable characters). It's just those three are GREAT. Best regards, George

A

It's kind of you to say so! They were, in truth, written very fast, but I did enjoy writing them more than any of the other books, and I think it's that enjoyment which shows. I certainly did not take more care with them, or put more effort into them, but they are my favourite books too! Gracias.

Q

I've just finished reading the Sword Song, which I enjoyed, but I am wondering when is the next book in the series coming out? Bill Betker

Hi I love your books they are fantastic...! As soon as I finish one I am ready for the next one. Living in Kuwait we do not always get them as soon as they come out however I do manage to accost people traveling to retrieve them for me. Looking forward to the next series, or will there be another after Sword Song..? Sarah

A

The next book in the Saxon Stories (after Sword Song) is at least a year or more away.

Q

Dear Mr. Cornwell, When you write do you actually handwrite your story or do you type it up as it comes to you? Are there going to be more movies made from your books? What sources, books, or websites do you use when you are doing historical research? Your reader, K.S.

A

I type on a computer. No plans for any movies at the moment. Take a look at the 'Suggestions for Further Reading' links found on the book pages of this website for a partial listing of some books I've used in my research.

Q

I have read all three of the Grail Quest books and loved them enough to think they should be made into movies with Peter Jackson as the director, I was wondering if this was going to happen in the near future? Alex Murchison

i know someone must have asked this before but please indulge in my selfishness. Have any producers or anyone ever asked to make the grail quest books into a movie trilogy? that would make an incredible movie to me with just about all the makings of a movie better the lord of the rings. and are you planning or working on making a new book for a completely new series? Love Your Books, Jason

A

No plans for it, but I'm glad to know you like the books.

I am writing a book about Agincourt now.
