Your Questions

Q

Dear Bernard, 2 quick questions....... 1/ I saw a list of your books on another site and there were 2 I did not recognise........"The Hidden Hand" and "The Snarl of the Beast" both 1992. I am sure it's a mistake as I have read every one of your books, but do you know anything about this?

Also, as much as I like Sean Bean as Sharpe in the films, did you ever see any of the footage featuring Paul McGann? He is great and would have made an excellent, but different, Sharpe. Rgds Robert Marsh

A

It is a mistake - I do not have books published under those titles.

I never saw any footage, but I agree, he would have been terrific!

Q

First of all I would like to thank you a great deal for all the books you have written! Now for a question that I have yet to find the answer to. I am a qualified Ancient and Medieval historian from Wales and love reading historical fiction, yet, I have never found any good novels written about Welsh history. There are plenty of history books but nothing that seduces you into the era like a good piece of historical adventure. There is a massive untapped source of events that authors seem to have overlooked lurking within the history of Wales. I was wondering if you have any plans to venture into these woods or if you know of any successful authors that cover this area? Many thanks. Owen

A

I don't know of any authors . . . . sorry. And it won't be me! Sorry again. I think that task is best left to a Welsh writer . . . . . I would, of course, commend John Cowper Powys's magnificent Porius and his Owen Glendower, but I know he's not to everyone's taste

Q

Hello there Mr Cornwell, Superb news that Sword Song will be released in the UK in September, I can't wait. Will you be doing a book signing tour to coincide with the release. I was lucky enough to have you sign my copy of Lords of the North in York, my wife said that shes never seen me so in awe of someone before. You gallantly kissed her hand that day and won yourself another fan. I know that everyone always asks if you've ever thought of writing about a certain period in history, so I'm going to do exactly the same....what about the English Civil war? Thank you for all your great stories. Garry Widdop, Durham England.

A

I've considered it, have done some research, think about it, but lord knows where I'll find the time to do it. One day, maybe?

Q

Hi Bernard, would just like to say that I am enjoying your historical novels immensely. I would like to know if you intend to write any more in the 'Grail Quest' Series'? Robert Shore

A

No, I think the Grail Quest series is finished.

Q

Hi Bernard,I'm a brazilian fan of yours, and I'want to say that I love your books, they are great. I wanted to know when will The Sword Song be released here in Brazil. Thanks for your attention, Lucas.

A

In Brazil, Lords of the North will be released in November 2007, but I don't know the schedule for Sword Song - I imagine not until at least September 2008.

Q

Dear Sir, I have read all of your Sharpe series over the years and thoroughly enjoyed them. The first book of yours I read was Rebel. The Starbuck chronicles is my favourite all time reading of any book or books. When will Starbuck's vacation end? Kind regards and many thanks for great entertainment.
Kevin Friend

A

I'm not sure. I'd like to finish the Sharpe series first, then get back to Starbuck.

Q

I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your writing so much. I have to say that my ultimate favourite series was without a doubt the Arthur trilogy which I have read multiple times. I'm also looking forward to reading the new book for the Saxon series. I was wondering if there were any plans in the works for dramatising The Arthur Trilogy? If there aren't would you ever consider allowing it to happen? Thanks for your time and I hope to read many more of your works. Andrew Paulukiewicz

hi there I have read the Arthur stories which were amazing, and am currently reading about Uhtred which have to be my favourite books ever! just finished lords of the north. how many books do you hope to have in this series? and is there any chance of Uhtred or Derfel making it to the big screen? Matthew

A

I'm glad to know you like the books. Don't know right now how many books will be in the series - more than four, less than twelve? I'd be happy to see the books made into films, but I'm not a filmmaker so it's up to someone else to do it.

Q

Dear Mr Cornwell, After watching Sharpe's Challenge on TV a few weeks ago, I decided to buy the entire series on DVD (it took me back to my childhood, when I used to get a cheeky late night and watch the earlier ones on tele!). By the way, I'm 19. After watching them all, I'm going to get the books, but being a student, my funds are a bit limited, and I need a bit of help help deciding which book to buy first. Finally, to the question, possibly one of the most boring questions anyone has asked you: what order do you believe is the best to read the Sharpe series? By the order they were published or in historical order? I ask because I think there might be advantages of reading them in either order. In publisher's order you might get kind of a better sense of Sharpe, see his character progress the way that you wrote about him, although in historical order you might have a better sense of time, sort of. Something like that anyway. Please, give me a hand! Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Hywel Parrington

A

I do generally recommend reading the Sharpe books in historical order. You'll find a complete chronological listing of the series on the Sharpe books page of this website. Hope you enjoy them!

Q

Dear Mr. Cornwell, Am I delusional, or were in fact, both Harper and Frederickson killed in one of the earlier Sharpe novels? Would you please let me know which novel? I have no problem with poetic resurrection, I would just like to know. I am up to Sharpe's Revenge and Sgt. Harper and Capt. Frederickson are both alive and well, hence the query. Many thanks for your response, and many thanks for your novels, C. Bowles

A

You are mistaken. Last I checked, both Harper and Frederickson were alive and well!

Q

Hello mister Cornwell, My name is Sean and despite my name, I am Brazilian , My father is Scot. I saw in you website that you plan to make more book after sword's song from Saxon Stories. Mr. Cornwell, Saxon stories will have more books them Sharpe's books? Thanks for the attention.

A

I'm not sure right now how many books there will be in the Saxon stories, but certainly not as many as in the Sharpe series.
