Your Questions

Q

Hello - just wanted to say I have really enjoyed reading your books, just finished the Arthur series. My husband is reading Sharpe which I will probably start soon. Will you be writing any more Arthur or Grail Quest? Thanks for your time, and please write faster LOL, Pam

A

Both the Arthur books and the Grail Quest series are finished.

Q

I have been enthralled by the Saxon series and noted that in you footnotes you implied that you were a descendant of an Utred. How do you know this from so far back? Have you been able to trace the history? I am looking forward to the next story. I also loved the grail quest. That kept me going for ages with anticipation. Thank you for your absorbing stories. Jane Bayes

A

I did not do the tracing, but I found out about my family history when I found my family, which only happened five or six years ago, and it turned out that one member is a keen genealogist and had drawn up a family tree going back to Ida the Flamebearer - and before him to Woden.

Q

What happened to Sharpe's daughter Antonia? In the TV series he collects her after the death of Theresa but is not mentioned again.
F. Wilson

A

I think it's possible Sharpe might see her again some day...

Q

Mr. Cornwell, I am A Blackpowder enthusiast and am wondering if you have ever fired a reproduction Baker Rifle? William D. A. Conrad

A

I do have a Baker rifle in the office, plus a Heavy Cavalry sword, and I sometimes dry fire the first to see what Sharpe would be doing at a particular moment.

Hello Mr Cornwell, I'm from Brazil and i discovered your books in a podcast i heard. I have to tell you they are great, the battles are very dynamic. I'm reading the Grail Quest and I loved it. Will you write more books about Thomas of Hookton? He is a great character. And thanks for the enjoyment you have given for all those read your books! João "Zalbahee" Moro

A

Thomas of Hookton? Probably not. I like him, and it's tempting, but I think his story is probably finished.

Q

hello, this might come as a bit weird asking the most prominent and best historical writer, but have you ever thought of writing a modern day war novel .ie the gulf war ,Iraqi war? It's just your unique take on battle scenes could bring life and highlight a topical subject. Aaron O Sullivan

A

I have no plans to write a modern day war novel, I prefer to stick to the more ancient past.

Q

Dear Mr Cornwell. I have been one of your biggest fans since I first saw Sean Bean as Sharpe. Then I discovered your Grail Quest series. Is there any chance that Thomas of Hookton will appear on the small screen? and who do you think would be the best actor to play him? All the best with your future projects. From Lynette.

A

There are no plans for it at the moment. I have no idea! I'd be horrible at casting. Who do you think?

Q

Dear Mr. Cornwell, Id just like to say Thank you for the wonderful Starbuck books that u wrote, I am currently studying A-Level history and we did 2 units on the American Civil war and your books gave me a great back ground info into the War and Im sure they'll help me during my private study this coming year, as I am doing about Lee and you have already given me fantastic ideas of where to find sources such as the Richmond news papers!! But after reading the books Id really like to read another is there any new on when you'll be writing the next one as I know its been 11 years since the last one?? Also is there any possibility of some books that follow the career of Sharpes son who pops up in the Starbuck books as I think these would be a really good read!! Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your fantastic books Daniel McEvilly

I've read several of your books and enjoyed them all. I just completed the fourth in the Starbuck series. Had I known the series was incomplete I never would have started it. I find myself grossly disappointed. It seems to me a man should finish what he starts and keep his word - "Starbuck will march again." When? Van Cochrane

A

I hope to get back to Starbuck once I've finished the Sharpe books. Sharpe's son? Maybe one day? I do want to write something about Sharpe's family, so perhaps it will happen.

Q

hello Mr Cornwell, I am a major fan of the Sharpe series and Sharpe's Havoc was the first real book I read. Since then I have read most of the books and seen all the films and am working my way through Escape now and still have Fury to read. I was wondering if you could explain to me a couple of points that I may have missed or were not included in the books- fist what happened to Tongue? And also how did Hakeswell escape the snake pit in Fortress? Love the work and keep it up! From James

I am reading the wonderful Sharpe's books in the historical order of the stories but I am a bit confused. I thought I read in one of the earler stories that Sergeant Obadiah Hakeswill was killed. But then in later stories he has come back to life. Am I imagining this? Bruce Martin

A

Isiah Tongue? You'll need to read Sharpe's Gold. Hakeswill? Who said he died? The snakes wouldn't touch him! He survived. He couldn't be killed (says so in the scriptures)!
