A novel following the adventures of an officer in the Austro-Hungarian navy during WWI. No I'd never have picked it up either...but, I'm so glad I did. The main character is a solid, emphathetic soul with a lovely sense of irony, and the ridiculous; especially as it relates to his dying empire. Parts of the world and a time period not normally covered as well. Very highly recommended. Part of a four book series.
