Ok this is not a book... I know. So maybe I'm breaking the laws of the book club here. But I'm sorry I just feel it necessary to tell all you history lovers out there about this great game. For any history enthusiastic this is a must, no matter if you've never played a PC game in your life. The game is basically strategy. You choose from a wide array of civilizations to control - ranging from the Britons to the Huns (other examples are the Goths, the Spanish, the Vikings... and a lot more). The single-player part of the game involves you running several specific-themed campaigns with the different civilizations. For example, you can sack Rome with Attila and the Huns or can free Scotland with William Wallace and the Celts. The nitty-gritty of the game involves building armies and towns and buildings. Military wise, each civ has its special units and bonuses that are historically accurate ie Britons have their Yewmen (I forget the name used in the game) , the Teutons have their Teutonic knights, the Spanish have Conquistadores, etc. And you have to supply food for your armies of course, along with gold and wood, by farming, fishing, mining, logging...etc with your villagers. And you can build normal military units too like knights and archers and crossbowmen and pikemen. And then you fight other armies. It's really a very good game, very strategic and very historically accurate. I'm sure anyone who like Mr Cornwell's Arthur, Sharpe or Grail Quest Series will much appreciate the history value of this game. It even obeys the laws of war such as archers have an advantage over infantry at range but not at close distances. And please don't be turned off if you have not played a game before or think "games are just for kids". It's just not true, this is truly an adult game and a stimulating one at that. You can get this at Amazon. Have fun!
