Author of bestselling Roman fiction moves into medieval period. The Game's Afoot doesn't eclipse Bernard Cornwell's great novel but it's still well worth reading. It's funnier that I expected but readers will also learn something about history. I particularly found the portraits of Henry and Thomas Chaucer engaging. I should say that story doesn't end with the climax of Agincourt but small fight scenes are handled well. Plot seems to blend real life conspiracies with ones Foreman has invented. There are lots of gags and pointed political comments (often at expense of Scottish) so would recommend you read with pinch of salt and sense of humour.
