Wilbur Smith is of the same ilk as Mr. Cornwell in that they each take fictional history reader's to the peak of excitement.
"Birds of Prey" and "Monsoon" - my personal favorites - are prequels to the Courtney series; and are both swashbuckling sea adventures of pirateering and privateering along the African coast in the 1600's during the Dutch and English war.
Wilbur Smith has been exciting his fans since the 60's when his first Courtney novel "When the Lion Feeds" was published. Pick up any of the 30 or so Wilbur Smith novels - they won't disappoint. Enjoy.
