This novel is a wonderful re-imagining of the Battle of Gettysburg written in the style of the Killer Angels. Lee, Longstreet again take center stage for the confederates and Meade neglected almost completely in Shaara's novel finally gets his due as a central character. To represent the common man Peters brings the 26th North Carolina regiment for the confederates the regiment with the highest casualty rate at Gettysburg. The 26th Wisconsin represents the Federals it is a German immigrant regiment that is blamed for the disaster at Chancellorsville even though it was one of the regiments to make a stand when others retreated. A Must for Civil war Buffs and Fans of historical/War fiction. If you enjoy this Peters wrote a follow up story about the overland campaign entitled On to Richmond.
