I have had the pleasure of reading Bernard Cornwell since Sharpe first appeared on PBS' Masterpiece Theater. I regard his Arthur series the best ever (and there are many). Arturo Pérez-Reverte has created Captain Alatriste, a character from 17th century Spain and the Thirty Years War, that I believe fellow Cornwell readers will enjoy. So far there are three in the series, the latest is The Sun Over Breda. P-R also has several other fine novels with an historical setting. Suffice it to say I am anxiously awaiting the US publication of Sword's Song.
