COMMAND

At odds with the new Captain of Tenacious, Capt. Rowley (concerning the loss of the frigate Artemis), Tom Kydd finds himself sent to Malta. There he finds himself promoted to Commander and has to commission a new brig-sloop. With a collection of old naval hands and Maltese seamen, he joins action against a slightly large French corvette and wins, gaining a Gazette entry. Shortly afterwards, the new Prime Minister of Britain, Lord Addington, makes peace with France. The fleet is reduced and Kydd is on the beach without a ship until he finds employment as Captain of a convict vessel to Australia.
The whole series so far has been worth reading as an example of both the action and boredom attached to the naval wars of the Napoleonic period.
