This was an extremely enjoyable book. It is set in 1865 Texas during the end of the American Civil War. A young soilder comes home to find that his home town is run by crooked " home guards" that are the local authorities comprised of men who were too scared to go to war. He finds that his childhood friends are on the "guards" "to do list". He has to choose between his nation or his loved ones. A very good read but very different from B.C.
