Eagle in the Snow is a tremendous piece of writing. Viewed against a field of excellent historical fiction available today -- our beloved Cornwell much included, as well as Steven Pressfield and others -- this is a great read. Much of Roman fiction centers around the early imperial age with its cast of iconic figures; thus the subject matter of the late empire is new ground to most readers who haven't cracked Procopius. Breem sets a great mood with Eagle in the Snow. Great book.
