The reason I enjoy reading Bernard Cornwell's novels is that while he tells thrilling, entertaining and wondeful stories he actually teaches you history without you realising it. What Bernard Cornwell has done for the Arthurian legend, the hundred years war and Regency London amongst others, Conn Iggulden does for ancient Rome. Conn Iggulden, in what unbelievably, is his first novel, brings ancient times and places to life in an exiting, entertaining and remarkable epic of a novel that will have you racing to turn each page and finish each chapter. I guarantee that all fans of Bernard Cornwell will absolutley love this fabulous and memorable novel which tells the tale of two friends, from childhood through to early adulthood, and their own fascinating journeys, one to the senate and one to the battlefields. Fantastic. Roll on the next in the series.
