This is a true history of the Comanche Nation and their long struggles with the settlers of the Western Frontier, and weaves in the story of Cynthia Parker, a white settler kidnapped by the tribe during a raid on her families compound. She is adopted by the tribe, marries a chief and has three children with him, one of which becomes the war chief Quanah. The narrative is full of profiles of multiple characters from the time including Kit Carson. It does a great job of telling a balanced, fair, and I assume accurate history of the period including the atrocities committed by both sides. I couldn't believe that these things had occurred on American soil.A geat read for history buffs.
