I recommend you all to read 'Gerald: a portrait' by his daughter Daphne. I have enjoyed it tremendously, as it is most vividly written, and covers the range of George Du Maurier, before Gerald was born, down to Gerald's death. There are some quite ruthless criticisms of the father, by the daughter, but for two generations the Du Mauriers were a most united family. There is no doubt in my mind that a spark of genius existed in that family.
