These two books are written by the former Speak of the US House of Representatvies. Gingrich has produced two very compelling novels approaching the quality work by Sharra but a little short of Clancy and Cornwell. This is only because Gingrich doesn't focus on just one main character, but involves many individuals from Lincoln and Jefferson Davis right on down to a company commander and his first sergeant. Grant Comes East is extremely interesting for the what if crowd. This novels portrays the aftermath of the Civil War in the United States had Lee won at Gettysburg. In a very clever manner it explores many aspects of the resulting confusion and fear that would have developed in the north on the political, military and social fronts. I have read both books several times and always find a point or two that I may have missed before. I have recommended both of these books to several people who shared my opinion for both books.
