There are many novels about America’s Civil War but few that tell the story from the British perspective. This is a fast-paced historical adventure with well-drawn characters, believable dialogue and a plot that will leave you asking how much of it is true. Michael Hammersley’s debut story skilfully weaves historical fact with some blood curdling fiction that will have you on the edge of your seat. Not one for the faint-hearted but heartily endorsed for those of you who like a good yarn. And unless you are from Liverpool, it’s doubtful you will guess the meaning of the book’s title until it’s revealed. Highly recommended.
