This is the second book in the KingMaker series which follows the progress of some of the ordinary men pulled into Scotland's struggle to resist Edward 1st of England's desire to add the crown of Scotland to those of England, Ireland and Wales. The characters are engaging, the history is well-researched and there is enough gritty realism to bring the brutality of medieval existence to life. An excellent, absorbing read!
