This is a very witty book that takes the reader on a journey from Cork to Dongeal (Yes! Patrick Harper country!) and then onto a finish in Dublin. It's the story of one man's attempt to get a handle on his heritage.
I just finished reading it for the third time and it is still a wonderful read. Mr. McCarthy's experiences are priceless especially his encounter with cows as he is trying to change a flat tire.
His rules of travel are witty truisms and my favorite one is the eighth one. Eighth Rule of Travel states never pass a bar that has your name on it. (I think that is something that Mr. Cornwell can relate too.)
So for all those folks you know who want to be Irish this the perfect gift....
