Mr. Midshipman Hornblower is a great novel, and starts off a series of great books about life at sea during the Napoleonic wars. It starts out in 1793 as a young Mr. Hornblower is ordered to board a French Merchantship and and take command of the crew and cargo and sail back to England. Hornblower sails the world in the eleven books in the series, fighting the French and the Spanish. Though the author's style is not quite Cornwell, it is great with a great amount of attention paid to detail. Readers who enjoyed the Sharpe books will appreciate Mr. Forester's work. The Hornblower books were made into A&E movies, I would also recommend those too. For those of you wanting a book about land warfare, The Commodore is a must read.
