This is Paul Watkins' first novel, and it's a winner. You could compare this book to "All Quiet on the Western Front"....told from the viewpoint of a young German soldier. Totally non political, as much a coming of age story as a war story. If you like this one, you'll enjoy Watkins' other books. Try "Promise of Light" or "The Forger".
