Never having read nautical fiction prior to picking up this book I found it a fascinating insight into life in Nelson's Navy. It follows the interwoven stories of Horatio Nelson and Emma Hamilton from childhood to their meeting in Naples and beyond. It is sometimes easy to forget that although obviously based on biographical fact this is a work of fiction. I have also read volume II 'Breaking The Line.'
