The second of Hunter's books 'starring' Earl Swagger, the ex-US Marine turned Arkansas cop, the first being "Hot Springs".
Set in Arkansas anD Louisiana in the late 40's / early 50's, Earl Swagger is a latter-day American version of Sharpe - a taciturn, slightly flawed man of action.
Hunter writes compelling, page-turning novels, which he researches as thoroughly as Bernard Cornwell. Shooting afficionados will be particularly impressed by his descriptions of weaponry, and infuriated by trying to identify the real-life shooters on whom Swaggers' 'posse' is based on.
I read "Pale Horse Coming', and on finishing it, had to log straIght on to Amazon.com to reorder his other books.
