I've read a lot of Archer's books, all good all fiction, so I was a bit surprised to find Paths of Glory was not only not a work of fiction but I am sure took many many hours of research on the life of George Mallory such as in the early 1900's the cold weather gear that by today's standards I wouldn't wear on a cold day in NYC, let alone on the heights of the Himalayan mountains. Having said that, this is a great story of true heroism and man's determination. This is the second time I am reading this book and it is every bit as good the second time as it was the first.
