I stumbled across this book a number of years ago - it tells the story of Bob Lee Swagger - a Marine sniper in Vietnam who is set up by a shadowy CIA group - he is charged with attempting to murder the US president - although from a different era to Sharpe I believe they have a lot in common - there is a series of books outlining his adventures - Hunter is also very good on his weapons research - a definite plus - check out www.stephenhunter.net for more information.
