An excellent example of historical fiction. If you're a fan of Bernard Cornwell or JV Jones, then you will love this book.
It's not very often I find myself gripped by a book, but this is definitely one that had me hooked. Any spare moment I had found me reading, even if it was just a page at the time. I am grateful that I have finished this, I might now be able to get some sleep as I found myself in bed going, just one more page!
The characters are very well written and easy to empathise with and the depth of description makes it really easy to visualise the scenes. I loved the way that as Kariss explores the past and learns about the world, the reader learns along with her, it really draws you into the story. It also has a couple of twists that I didn't see coming.
I cannot think of a single criticism of this book, except perhaps that the next one hasn't been written yet!
