I offer this recommendation with reference to Bernard's depiction of early Christians in the Arthur trilogy and their less-than-salutory methods for the dissemination of their faith. This work examines the actual historical origins of Christianity (as opposed to the Church's revisionism), and the reasons why it became the dominant religion in the West. Although this book is meticulously researched and referenced (the authors are classical scholars), it is very easy to read and comprehend. I cannot recommend it too highly to anyone who CAN handle the truth.
