A worthy successor to the work of the early pulp-fiction masters, Scott Oden's latest novel, "The Lion of Cairo", is a fabulous medieval adventure with plenty of swords and a hint of sorcery in the form of a demon-haunted sword. Assassins and crusaders, caliphs, viziers and courtesans mix it up in a vividly recreated desert world. You'll be left wanting more, and happily "Lion" is just the first in a trilogy.
