Having read the "Rings" trilogy in school I had to do a re-read when the Peter Jackson movies came out. What a treat to rediscover the language of Tolkien. "Return of the King" is my favorite of the three. Like all good end of series books "King" brings all the plot lines back together, of course, but Tolkien goes beyond the high mark of the other two book in this last one. The pathos, the selflishness, the ability to attempt the impossible no matter how hopeless...these themes all come to their marvelous apex in "King". An additional pleasure is the presence of a genuine heroine! A very worthy read.
