This series, which now consists of 7 very fat volumes, is the best historical fiction that I have read (and re-read many times!).
The story revolves around two main characters; Jamie and Claire. Claire is a 19th Century woman who has travelled back in time through a ring of standing stones in the highlands of Scotland to the same place but two hundred years earlier. Jamie becomes her husband and partner in adventures that see them travel from Scotland and Europe to the New World.
The historical research is meticulous and the descriptions of places and characters are so detailed and fascinating you'd believe this was a true story!
