I love historical fiction in general and this is a fantastic novel of the genre. I believe this is the author's first book but I hope it is not his last! Set between the 1st & 2nd Crusades, it follows the path of James Rose, a believable, interesting main character and one you immediately empathise with. The support cast are strong too and the main story line is excellent and I read the book from start to finish in 3 days. I fully recommend this book for any fan of Bernard Cornwell novels.
