The People of The Mist by H. Rider Haggard has some of the themes and features that I have come to enjoy in Mr. Cornwell's work. Honor, courage, greed, magic, deception all come into play in this work as well as some of his other novels such as She and King Solomon's Mines. The People of the Mist places Africa and Africans in an interesting light perhaps consistent with the age. H. Rider Haggard has melded the world of the British Empire at its Zenith with the mysterious continent of Africa. The results of this union are part fantasy, part idealism, and plenty of adventure.
